Dear Neighbor,

Big changes are coming to LA County’s government structure as a result of Measure G, which passed in 2024. These changes will impact how County government operates and could have a significant impact on our unincorporated communities.

To help ensure residents understand these changes and have a voice in shaping what comes next, we have been hosting meetings with our unincorporated communities to share information, answer questions, and put co-governance into action (check out the video here).

Starting in 2028, for the first time ever, an elected County Executive will take over executive management of the County’s day-to-day operations. This includes directing department heads and having veto power over certain budget decisions.

Questions like how will constituent services be impacted? And many other important details needed to ensure a more effective, accountable, and transparent LA County government are being discussed right now by the LA County Governance Reform Task Force (GRTF). 

Now is the time to make your voice heard!

The future of your County government should be shaped by the people it serves. That’s why I encourage you to stay informed and engaged in the process as the Task Force discusses and prepares to vote on recommendations that will ultimately be sent to the Board of Supervisors.

The LA County Development Authority's Public Housing Program will begin accepting registrations for 16 Site-Based Waiting Lists, including 10 elderly-designated properties on Monday August 17 at 8:00am. 

The deadline to apply is September 16 at 5 p.m., though some small site lists may close earlier once 1,000 applications are received.

One of the winning projects Ladera Heights residents selected through our Community Budget - LA County’s first participatory budget process - was Youth Digital Workforce Development to help connect young people to employment opportunities in high-growth industries. 

On Saturday, August 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., we are partnering with the non-profit UNITE-LA to  host “Pathways to Your Future,” a Community Resource Fair connecting Ladera Heights youth ages 16–24 with workforce training and career opportunities.

We recently heard from Maria, a resident that lives in our Florence-Firestone community near South LA. Maria shared how she learned about The Works app through Supervisor Mitchell’s Sippin’ My Tea and how she has started using The Works app to report issues like street light outages and illegal dumping and the impact she has already seen by using it. 

The Works App is focused entirely on helping Public Works respond to the needs of our unincorporated communities. It is completely free and you can download it here to report illegal dumping, graffiti, potholes, blocked storm drains, overgrown trees, sidewalk issues and more.

Residents near SoFi Stadium have raised concerns with our office about the noise level of some shows—especially following the recent Hard Summer concert—and we want you to know that we hear you, so here is what we're doing:

Because SoFi Stadium is within the jurisdiction of the City of Inglewood, our office has shared these concerns with Inglewood officials and is committed to working collaboratively to find solutions. Also, because we know that sound from some events at SoFi can reverberate into neighboring communities as far as Lennox and Ladera Heights, we are exploring potential measures to reduce noise impacts on nearby unincorporated communities, which is within the County’s jurisdiction.
