Dear Neighbor,
Here's an update from the County Department of Public Works on the most requested services in our unincorporated communities through The Works App—and why your continued participation is so important.
Every report submitted through the app helps my office and the Department of Public Works identify issues more quickly, deploy crews more efficiently, and ensure County resources are directed where they are needed most.
Between April and June of this year, residents in our district submitted more than 5,300 service requests through The Works App. During that same period, Public Works removed 1,858 tons of illegally dumped waste, eliminated 13,754 graffiti tags, received hundreds of requests related to supporting residents experiencing homelessness, tree maintenance, and addressing potholes.
Below is a snapshot of the most requested Public Works services in our district last quarter and the impact your reports helped make possible.

Florence-Firestone: As part of our Community Budget initiative, we are teaming up with Inspire Together at Animo Pat Brown Charter High School (8205 Beach Street, Los Angeles, CA 90001) to connect residents to employment opportunities. Join us on Wednesday, July 29, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm for a Job Fair that will include over 15 employers hiring on-site. Positions range from hourly ($18-$22/hr) to salaried.

There have been sightings of coyotes in our View Park, El Camino Village, Rancho Dominguez and West Carson communities. Here are some reminders to keep you and your pets safe:
- Do not feed coyotes or leave food out
- Do not approach, turn your back or run away
- Walk your dogs on leash
- Make noise and be ready to haze - the goal here is to make the animal feel uncomfortable and re-establish its natural fear of humans. This teaches the coyote that residential areas are unsafe and to avoid people. It does not mean harming the animal.
You can report coyote sightings to the Los Angeles County Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures at (626) 575-5462 or by using the department’s online form here. If a coyote attack occurs, please call 9-1-1.
Metro’s plan to ease traffic and enhance safety on Interstate 105 (I-105) freeway includes the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, or carpool lane, into two Metro Expresslanes in each direction on the I-105 freeway. Metro ExpressLanes are available for use by all motorists, as a toll-free option to carpools and buses and by paying a toll for single occupant drivers.
Below are dates for upcoming ramp closures impacting our Willowbrook, South LA and Inglewood communities:
Friday, July 31, at 8:00 p.m. - Sunday, August 2 at 3:00 p.m.
- Eastbound two center lane closures from I-405 Connector to Prairie Ave.
Friday, July 31, at 7:00 p.m. – Sunday, August 2, at 4:00 p.m.
There will be a closure of the following ramps:
- Northbound I-405 to Eastbound I-105 connector
- Southbound Hawthorne Blvd. on-ramp
- Imperial Hwy/Prairie Ave on-ramp
- The remaining travel lanes will stay open
Sunday, August 2, at 7:00 a.m. to Monday, August 3 at 5:00 a.m.
- Westbound lane closures near Wilmington Ave off-ramp

Over the past few weeks our Freedom Summer Program has been bringing a wide range of FREE fun activities and hands-on learning courses for all ages to our Willowbrook community @ Carver Park (1400 E 118th St, Los Angeles, CA 90059). We are partnering with incredible organizations including Kids in the Spotlight and the County’s Delete the Divide Program.
If you know a young person interested in the entertainment industry or just looking for a fun creative summer activity encourage them to join Kids in the Spotlight. Check out the video to learn more about what to expect here.

The California Secretary of State is partnering with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk to bring in-person Apostille services to convenient locations for county residents.
An Apostille is a certificate that authenticates the signature, seal, or stamp of a public official on a document.
The upcoming event will offer same day Apostille services, domestic partnership registrations, and vital records (birth, death, and marriage records). Make sure to bring a government-issued I.D. to the event.
