July is Disability Pride Month, commemorating the signing of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This year's theme, established by The Arc—one of the nation's largest community-based disability organizations—is "The World Works Better with Us." It reminds us that when we prioritize accessibility and inclusion, our communities are stronger, more innovative, and better for everyone.
Throughout the month, Los Angeles County's Department of Aging & Disabilities is celebrating the voices, experiences, and contributions of Angelenos with disabilities through its "Proud To Be Me" series. I encourage you to explore these inspiring stories and hear directly from community members about what Disability Pride means to them.
Earlier this year, we kicked off our 2nd District Racial Justice Learning Exchange with a community storytelling experience focused on disability and racial justice. Residents, caregivers, artists, advocates, and allies shared powerful stories at the intersection of disability, race, culture, identity, and lived experience. If you missed it, I invite you to watch the performances and discussions from this meaningful event here.
As a member of the Metro Board of Directors, I was proud to have Metro partner with the Wiley Institute and Special Needs Network to launch a survey to better understand and meet the needs of neurodiverse transit riders. Now that the survey has concluded, I look forward to sharing updates on how the feedback shared is being put into action. During this week's Board of Supervisors meeting, we took an important step toward upholding the will of the voters and preserving Measure J in the County Charter as Los Angeles County implements its new governance structure. Measure J's commitment to community investment and alternatives to incarceration was overwhelmingly approved by voters and should have never been put at risk due to an administrative error.
Thank you to the Reimagine LA Coalition and the many advocates, families, and community partners who spoke in support of this effort, as well as to Supervisor Horvath for co-authoring the motion. The work continues later this month, when the proposed Charter amendment returns to the Board for consideration. In the meantime, you can watch some of my remarks from this week's Board meeting here.

As a Governor Newsom appointee to the California Film Commission, and as someone who proudly represents the heart of Screenland and the countless residents whose livelihoods depend on the entertainment industry, I remain committed to supporting an industry that powers Los Angeles County's economy and creates thousands of family-sustaining jobs.
This year, California's Film & Television Tax Credit Program 4.0—which builds on the 3.0 version I authored while serving in the California Legislature—supported 170 film and television projects projected to generate $6.6 billion in economic activity and nearly 35,000 cast and crew jobs statewide. Just this week, the California Film Commission announced 41 additional projects expected to generate more than $1 billion in new economic activity.
