Dear Neighbor,
This past Fourth of July weekend, more than 6,000 residents and visitors joined us in our unincorporated Willowbrook community for our official FIFA World Cup Fan Zone and Paseo Willowbrook Open Streets event at Earvin "Magic" Johnson Park. Families, neighbors, and fans from every background came together to celebrate the world's game—cheering for different teams, speaking different languages, and sharing one space in the spirit of joy, belonging, and community. It was a powerful reminder that our diversity is something to celebrate, not fear.

A special thank you to Community Arts Resources (CARS), the LA World Cup 2026 Host Committee, Metro, and all of our incredible partners, volunteers, vendors, performers, County departments, and the many people working behind the scenes who made this unforgettable weekend possible.
I couldn't imagine a better way to celebrate Independence Day. As we mark our nation's 250-year journey, I hope we are reminded that America's strength has never been found in a single story, but in the many people and communities who continue to shape it.
Honoring our diversity, confronting inequities, and learning from our shared history must remain at the heart of how we shape the next 250 years. The promise of liberty and justice for all remains an urgent and unfinished project.
On a separate but related note, I encourage you to continue reflecting on this in dialogue with fellow residents at WE THE PEOPLE, an inspiring art exhibit organized by Community Coalition and Sankofa.org.

To help expand access to arts and cultural events, our office is teaming up with the LA Phil to support its new EBT Access Program at the Ford theatre. We understand that changes at the federal level have caused confusion on CalFresh enrollment. Our office is partnering with the South Bay Coalition to End Homelessness on a Service Connect Day for residents experiencing homelessness. Join us at the Betty Ainsworth Sports Center (3851 W. El Segundo Blvd, Hawthorne, CA 90250) on Saturday, July 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
There will be free housing and shelter information, health and mental wellness support, job and career services, school and youth resources, legal and document assistance, and more.
We encourage you to share the info with your network to help connect our unhoused community to vital resources.
