Dear Neighbor,
Today marks one year since the Trump administration zoned in on our LA region and began targeting and abducting residents from our communities through aggressive and illegal immigration enforcement actions. In response, immigrant rights organizations like CHIRLA, Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) and countless others, along with residents, and grassroots media outlets mobilized to document what was happening, share lifesaving information, provide legal support, protect families, and develop community defense strategies that have since become models for communities across the country.
The County has continued to build on these efforts by challenging discriminatory ICE raid tactics in court, protecting residents' personal health information, assessing the impacts of federal policy changes, and developing emergency support programs for families and small businesses affected by immigration enforcement. And toward the end of last year, I had the honor of being a part of a delegation of elected leaders from across the county asked to share the truth of Trump’s attacks on human rights with watchdog groups within the United Nations.
Far too many lives have been lost, forever changed, and traumatized by the inhumane immigration enforcement of the Trump administration. We are clear our work is not done and our commitment must be as persistent as the injustices we face.
As our region hosts major global events including the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics and Paralympic Games in 2028, our message remains clear: Los Angeles County will continue to stand with immigrant communities and fight to ensure that every resident can live with dignity and access the County services and care they are entitled to, regardless of their immigration status.

Team Mitchell proudly joined the LA County LGBTQ+ Commission, County departments, and advocates for the raising of the Progress Pride Flag. As we continue to see attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community and attempts to roll back hard-won gains in the fight for equality, the raising of the Progress Pride Flag on every County building must be more than a powerful symbol, it must also reflect a shared commitment to ensuring safety, belonging, and dignity for all our residents. A special thank you to our Second District Commissioners Luis Vasquez and Dr. Jerry Abraham along with the entire LA County LGBTQ+ Commission and everyone who shares this understanding. We are proud to work alongside you in making our communities more inclusive and equitable —not just during Pride Month, but every single day.
To find out about upcoming Pride events at our County parks, visit https://parks.lacounty.gov/pride/ and visit your local LA County Library for more ways to learn about and celebrate Pride month in your community: https://lacountylibrary.org/pride/
