LA County is taking bold action to fight poverty and calling on all our 88 cities and unincorporated communities along with community organizations and stakeholders to join us! Earlier this month the Board unanimously approved my motion with Supervisor Horvath to create a Countywide Anti-Poverty pledge focused on measurable goals.
The next step is happening now, with the County’s Poverty Alleviation Initiative partnering with the Center for Strategic Partnerships to gain community input. Please see the list of upcoming virtual workshops you can join as we work to launch this anti-poverty pledge.
Attend an upcoming virtual workshop:
- Tuesday, April 21: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
- Monday, April 27: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
- Monday, May 4: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

We received an update during last week’s Metro Operations, Safety & Customer Experience Committee on our efforts to make the transit experience more accessible for neurodiverse riders. One thing is clear, when we’re intentional about improving the transit experience to meet the diverse needs of each rider, we ultimately are improving the experience for all riders.
Through surveys, mystery rides, and community listening sessions, we heard from over 1,600 participants about their real experiences navigating the transit system.
Some key next steps include:
- Expanding travel training and launching a “Practice Transit Experience” program
- Enhancing real-time information and trip planning tools
- Training frontline staff to better support neurodiverse riders
- Exploring tools like discreet “I Need Help” cards and recognition programs
This work goes beyond compliance - it’s about dignity, independence, and making transit a system that truly works for all. I look forward to sharing more updates as this effort moves forward. To read the full report click here.

As LA County prepares to host major events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics and Paralympic Games, I recently passed a motion directing the County to identify strategies for its properties and venues to generate revenue and offer lasting community benefits during these events.
My office is proud to be hosting an official FIFA World Cup Fan Zone at LA County’s Earvin “Magic Johnson Park during the Fourth of July weekend. Our Senior Deputy for Workforce Development, Caroline Torosis, led a discussion with local government leaders about ways for other countries and international organizations to partner with the County on our official Fan Zone along with other opportunities.
The application is now open for both sponsors and food and merchandise vendors to help create a vibrant and inclusive marketplace experience at this year’s Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zone events. Applications will close by Friday, May 15 at 5:00pm, apply here.
