This week we celebrated the long-awaited ribbon cutting for the non-profit organization HOPICS (Homeless Outreach Program Integrated Care System) new Access Center in Compton. This is more than a building. It’s a welcoming open door for people experiencing homelessness to take the first courageous step toward safety, stability, and a place to call home. Thank you to Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán, Compton Mayor Emma Sharif, and to everyone who made this vision a reality. When we invest in people, connection, and housing, our communities as a whole benefit. To learn more about services and support provided by HOPICS visit: www.hopics.org.
National Public Health week (April 6 -12) is right around the corner. We are proud to partner with the County Department of Public Health, Department of Economic Opportunity, and Inclusive Action in the City for our Taste of Possibility event on Thursday April 9 at Ted Watkins Park.
This is a one-stop-shop for sidewalk vendors and small businesses to receive information and support with the County’s Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operations (MEHKOs) so they can safely operate their business and serve our communities. There will also be resources for receiving a Compact Mobile Food Operation cart. To learn more click here.
Here is the list of events happening throughout public health week.
We partnered with the LA Regional Food Bank to distribute over 3,000 boxes of food to 30 locations throughout our district that included senior centers, housing sites, and community-based organizations. Check out the video to learn more.

Metro wants to hear from you! The Metro Board is composed of the five Los Angeles County Supervisors, the Mayor of Los Angeles and three mayoral appointees, representatives from other cities across the County, and a non-voting state representative. This structure is designed to balance regional perspectives in decision-making. As Los Angeles County governance evolves, including the future expansion of the Board of Supervisors and the establishment of an elected County Executive, the Metro Board has directed staff to provide background information and support a thoughtful discussion on ensuring Metro provides strong regional representation, accountability and leadership.
