District Attorney Hochman Announces Innovative Approach to Address Sex Exploiters/Buyers and Pimps During National Human Trafficking Prevention Month
 Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman outlined the Office’s continued efforts and innovative approach to combat human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, combining tougher felony charging decisions against sexual exploiters/buyers, commonly referred to as “johns,” and sex traffickers/pimps as well as providing services from community-based organizations to directly support sex worker victims and survivors.
“Human trafficking is essentially modern-day slavery, and Los Angeles County for far too long has been one of its epicenters,” District Attorney Hochman said. “A year ago, we announced we were going to aggressively prosecute traffickers and pimps – and we did – but there is still a crisis for families in these neighborhoods. Our office is now doing three things at once to go after the demand and supply side of this illegal sex industry: filing felony cases, including conspiracy charges, against the sexual exploiters/buyers who drive demand, aggressively seeking years of prison time against the sex traffickers/pimps, and offering resources and services to sex workers, in an effort to end their exploitation.”

Hochman and members of his office joined the festivities for the self-proclaimed world’s largest and longest running celebration of life for one of the most prominent leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. District Attorney Hochman, alongside his brother David Hochman, Assistant District Attorney Gilbert Wright, and Head Deputy Robert Grace, rode in the 41st annual Kingdom Day parade as Angelenos and visitors came together to celebrate Dr. King’s timeless vision, life, and legacy. This year’s theme, “Honoring the Past, Activating the Future,” served as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to carry his work forward.

 District Attorney Hochman Pays Tribute
at Palisades Fire Remembrance
 January 7 marked one year since the Palisades and Eaton Fires forever changed Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Topanga, Altadena, and surrounding communities. Earlier that week, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman spoke at the Palisades Fire Observation Ceremony, where he and others paused to honor the lives lost, the families displaced, and the homes, businesses, and historic places destroyed. Thank you to Los Angeles Councilwoman Traci Park for hosting this meaningful event and reminding us of the importance of reflecting on how far we’ve come, recognizing our resilience, and continuing to rebuild together.

 One Year After the L.A. Fires,
Justice and Recovery Continue
 Since the Palisades and Eaton Fires, many spent the past year trying to put the pieces of their lives back together. As recovery efforts continue, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is focused on protecting victims from criminals, so that the community may continue to rebuild in peace. We have vigorously prosecuted dozens of individuals who targeted vulnerable populations during and after the fires, including:
- Arsonists
- Looters and thieves stealing from evacuation zones
- People impersonating first responders to steal from survivors
- Individuals violating law enforcement curfews
