Our LA County Animal Care Centers are full of pets that are ready to be adopted—and it's not just dogs and cats. Our animal care teams regularly adopt out rabbits, chickens, snakes, turtles, tortoises and more. No matter what type of pet would be a good fit for your home, you can find a friend in one of our seven shelters.
This week I am highlighting six pets that are ready for adoption out of our Downey Animal Care Center:
-
Sheba, a 2-year-old pit bull mix
-
Boy, a 2-year-old domestic shorthair cat
-
Steven, a 1-year-old shorthair rabbit
-
Spottington, 1 year-old pit bull bix
-
Jill, a 1-year-old German shepherd mix
-
Greengo, a 1-year-old turtle
No matter who you decide to add to your family, please do your part to help control the pet population and have your pets spayed or neutered.
If you take home a dog or cat today, you can stop by our Vet @ the Park program tomorrow at Artesia Park for free exams, vaccines, microchips and other services.
ICE continues to wreak havoc across LA County. On Tuesday, they kidnapped two gardeners who were working in the University Park Estates neighborhood in Long Beach, which rattled the community so much that some parents kept their kids home from school.
Thank God they did not hurt someone, but this is further proof ICE agents are undertrained and too dangerous to interact with the public.

I took the Silver Line on my way to our Metro board meeting this week, and I got to chat with Christian, who’s been an ambassador for almost three years now. Like so many other riders, I love seeing our ambassadors when I ride Metro.
I have seen the positive impacts that ambassadors have on our system, and a new study from the UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies confirmed how successful this program has been.
The study found that, in addition to helping riders navigate the system, the presence of ambassadors deters crime—and they have saved more than 300 lives since the program’s launch by using Narcan to reverse overdoses.
Thank you to Christian and all of our ambassadors for their hard work.
Now more than ever, it is important that everyone in Los Angeles County knows their rights and knows what legal support is available.
If you are interested in learning more, you can join a Know Your Rights workshop every third Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m.
Lunar New Year is coming up, and our LA County Parks are hosting celebrations across the Fourth District.
