Dear Neighbor,
This week, we launched the Sidewalk Vending Cart Program in partnership with the City of Los Angeles. The LA County Department of Economic Opportunity will oversee a $2.8 million investment to provide more than 280 free, health-code compliant vending carts to stationary and mobile sidewalk vendors operating in unincorporated Los Angeles County.
This program is the result of a series of motions I authored along with Chair Solis and is in response to the passage of Senate Bill 946, which created a formal process for sidewalk vending in unincorporated areas and requires vendors to obtain a Sidewalk Vending Registration Certificate and a Compact Mobile Food Operation (CMFO) Permit from the Department of Public Health.
By providing free, health code compliant carts and removing cost barriers, we are making sure the law comes with real pathways for vendors to thrive in the formal economy.
For more information and to apply, visit opportunity.lacounty.gov/sidewalkvendingcarts.

Ahead of the Thursday, January 22 Metro Board meeting, where we will vote on the Metro C Line Extension to Torrance Project, I have introduced a motion to approve the Hawthorne Boulevard alignment option. After working with Metro to hear directly from constituents and evaluate the best options for advancing this important initiative - that has been over a decade in the making - the Hawthorne Boulevard alignment option addresses key safety concerns such as proximity to homes in addition to placing stations closer to existing jobs, retail and services. Overall, this option offers the strongest opportunity to deliver lasting mobility, economic and environmental benefits.
I look forward to the discussion and vote. To learn more about how to participate in the Metro Board meeting, visit: https://boardagendas.metro.net/
The Tuesday, January 27th Public Hearing on the proposed housing development known as “The View” in the View Park - Windsor Hills community, has been postponed to Tuesday, February 24 to allow the owner and applicant to provide the required onsite advance public notice of the Public hearing. We will continue to share updates as we get closer to the new date.
We are continuing to turn winning ideas residents voted on for our 2nd District Community Budget into reality, thanks to the support of our community implementation partners, like UNITE-LA. UNITE-LA is helping us expand access to internships and career opportunities, which was one of the top ideas Ladera Heights residents wanted to invest their 2nd District Community Budget dollars in.
On Thursday January 24, from 4:00-6:00pm, UNITE-LA is hosting a virtual career fair for Ladera Heights residents ages 16–24 to explore internship opportunities and connect with local employers, including: Cedars-Sinai, Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, Metro, United Airlines, and more.

If you or someone you know may be experiencing trafficking, please contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888 or text HELP to 233733. Calls are free, confidential and available in more than 200 languages. You can also report concerns to LA County’s Office of Labor Equity at dcba.lacounty.gov/stophumantrafficking or 1-800-593-8222.
