Top three things to look forward to from RPOSD this year:
-
Historic Award of up to $58 Million Towards the Next Generation of Parks, Trails, and Open Space: Last summer, we announced the largest competitive grant funding opportunity in our history. The anticipated $58 million will transform the future of parks, trails, and open space across Los Angeles County. The turnout of applications was extraordinary, and applications are currently under review. Once the evaluation process is complete, we will announce the awardees and celebrate this historic investment at a dedicated ceremony.
-
Grants Management System (GMS) Replacement: This new system will improve every stage of our grantmaking process, from application to review, reporting, and project tracking. Development is in the final stages, and we are excited to roll out a streamlined, data-driven, and user-friendly grantmaking system in the next few months!
-
An Update of the Grants Administration Manual (GAM): Our team has been working hard on revising and restructuring the Measure A GAM to ensure it is a more functional, streamlined, and user-friendly resource for our partners and stakeholders. The updated document features improved organization, enhanced visuals, and clearer guidance to support easier navigation and help grantees more efficiently manage their projects.

The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Department (DPR) was awarded a $897,354 Measure A grant to expand its ESTEAM Summer Camp Program (Environment, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). DPR, in partnership with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM), Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors (DBH), and Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (DPW), offered five two-week sessions of ESTEAM summer camps for youth ages 6 to 12 at parks throughout Los Angeles County.
In addition to hands-on technology learning, campers participated in weekly field trips (including transportation and meals) to destinations such as the California Science Center, Natural History Museum, Santa Fe Dam, Bonelli Regional Park, and the Day at the Marina program. These experiences gave youth real-world exposure to ecosystems, environmental conservation, engineering, and marine science, significantly expanding the educational reach and community impact of ESTEAM Camps in underserved communities.
