PowerFlex, the County of Los Angeles Internal Services Department and Partners Install New Electric Vehicle Charging at Carmelitos to Drive Equitable Access in Long Beach
WHAT: The County of Los Angeles Internal Services Department (ISD), in partnership with the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA), PowerFlex, and Southern California Edison (SCE), is hosting a community celebration event, “Charge Up Carmelitos!”, to celebrate the deployment of 20 new Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the Carmelito’s Public Housing Development. This project provides a much-needed resource for the community, with public and private entities joining forces to expand equitable access to clean transportation. The new installation directly advances the County’s and state’s goal to enable the transition to cleaner transportation for all residents. This is equity in action, providing Carmelitos residents and the surrounding community with the same access to reliable, sustainable EV charging solutions available in other parts of the County. These combined efforts reinforce broader clean mobility initiatives that reduce environmental harm and cutting greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and supporting a cleaner, healthier future for all residents. This successful public-private collaboration serves as a model for expanding affordable, reliable EV charging access where it is needed the most.
