Dear Neighbor,
In celebration of National Digital Inclusion Week, my office partnered with the County’s Internal Services Department and California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) to bring the Digital Advancement & Opportunity Regional Summit to our district.
This event was the result of a motion I authored, building on the County’s ongoing efforts to strengthen digital inclusion. The motion calls for the development of a three-year regional roadmap, informed by community partners, to help us go further in closing the digital divide—the gap between those who have access to computers and the internet, and those who do not.
In L.A. County, the digital divide affects hundreds of thousands of households, disproportionately impacting low-income residents, Black, Latino, Indigenous communities, and older adults.
This year, with the Trump administration ending the Digital Equity Act, it’s more important than ever to reaffirm our commitment to digital equity. We must coordinate long-term planning across the region and identify sustainable funding strategies— these are just a few of the key goals of the roadmap. If you'd like to stay updated on how to collaborate with my office and our partners on the County’s Digital Equity Roadmap, let us know here: https://bit.ly/DE-Roadmap

Thanks to Measure A (a countywide half-cent sales tax that passed in Nov 2024 to fund solutions for homelessness) and the Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency (LACAHSA) - a regional entity created to produce and preserve affordable housing and prevent homelessness - the County will be receiving approximately $24M to advance housing solutions.
Approximately, 90,000 renters in unincorporated areas across the County lack access to an affordable home. We know that providing an affordable home is key to preventing homelessness and stabilizing families.
To help ensure those dollars advance housing production, preservation and homeownership and renter protections in our unincorporated areas, Supervisor Hahn and I authored a motion that passed this month directing several departments to create a strategic plan for this investment.
Earlier this year, the State passed Assembly Bill 413, which prohibits vehicles stopping, standing, or parking adjacent to crosswalks up to 20 ft. The County adopted an ordinance to include the new state law in the County Code. Parking enforcement has been issuing warnings throughout this year to cars in violation, and will begin issuing citations for violations starting November 1, 2025. Although the Department of Public Works has been installing red curbs in high-impact intersections, residents should be aware that curbs do not have to be painted red, nor have signs posted, for this new law to be enforced.
Plans to bring a new restaurant to the former Tony P’s Dockside Grill in Marina del Rey (MdR) took a step forward this month when the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors (DBH) entered into a license agreement with the California Yacht Club (CYC). The license allows CYC to use the site while the club and County work toward a lease amendment.
This important step builds on our commitment to investing in the MdR community for all residents to enjoy, while honoring the local institutions that make MdR so special.
One simple action—activating closed captions—can help break down communication barriers for countless individuals, especially those who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing, residents learning a new language, and neurodivergent individuals. The Board recently approved my motion directing the County to develop a plan to ensure closed captioning is used - as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act - on screens in public spaces and businesses. I look forward to our County teams continuing to collaborate with small businesses, advocates, and residents to create a plan that reflects the diverse needs and insights of our communities. Thank you to the Department of Aging and Disabilities, Commission on Disabilities, Compton ASL Club, the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, Mychal’s Learning Place and the Special Needs Network.
