New Measure A Funds Deposited to Local Park Agencies
Check your balance today!
Measure A is the Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure passed by voters in 2016. It generates funds through an annual parcel tax based on the square footage of improved property in the county. This year, $117.5 million was collected, of which $80 million can be awarded to communities throughout LA County on a non-competitive basis. The remaining funds support competitive grant programs offered yearly. These funds can be immediately put to park and recreation facility improvements, new parks, open space preservation, repairs, water conservation, and so much more. Altogether, over $300 million is now available on a non-competitive basis.
These funds can be used immediately for a wide range of eligible projects, including new parks, recreation facility upgrades, open space preservation, water conservation, and more. In total, over $300 million in cumulative non-competitive funding is currently available. Additionally, more than $87 million is available through Maintenance and Servicing funds to support previously funded RPOSD projects. On October 10, RPOSD convened the California Natural Resources Agency, California State Parks, Wildlife Conservation Board, Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, and Baldwin Hills & Urban Watersheds Conservancy to host the first-ever Park Funding Summit at Loma Alta Park in Altadena.
The event brought together more than 150 participants from 65 cities, including park agencies, school districts, nonprofits, community-based organizations, and all five conservation corps. Attendees heard directly from funders announcing over $1 billion in future park and open space grants and connected with potential partners and Grantmakers to strengthen upcoming projects.

TreePeople Expands Outdoor Access in Southeast Los Angeles County

TreePeople received a $1.1 million Measure A grant to lead the Natural Connections program, which provides free outdoor experiences for youth and families in Southeast Los Angeles County. Each year, the program hosts up to 220 trips to iconic natural spaces such as the Audubon Center at Debs Park, Ballona Freshwater Marsh, Malibu Creek State Park, and Castaic Lake.
Now in its third year, Natural Connections continues to inspire students and families to explore and connect with nature close to home. One teacher shared, “Genuinely a great experience for my students—loved the hands-on connection to LA’s native plants, land, and people.”

RPOSD Invests $5.1 Million to Expand Coastal Resilience & Access to Los Angeles County Beaches
Projects to restore and protect Dockweiler, Zuma, and Redondo beaches for future generations are moving ahead, thanks to $5.1 million in Measure A funds announced in August. RPOSD's grants will fund the next phase of planning and design of “living shoreline” projects at each of the three beaches. Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors (DBH) launched the projects in 2024 and is close to completing a feasibility study that helped shape their design. Each project will now move into design development and environmental review, with an aim to start construction in the coming years. Community engagement will be a key part of the process—including public meetings, email updates, and presentations to local groups—to ensure transparency and help shape the design of each project.
