Tsunami Advisory in Effect For LA County Coastline
A tsunami advisory is in effect for LA County with expected impacts to beaches, harbors, ports beginning around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30. Residents should stay away from beaches and waterways, due to strong currents and waves in or near coastal waters.
According to the advisory issued by the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center, waves of 1 foot or less are expected to reach Los Angeles beaches and waterways around 1 a.m.
The advisory, following an 8.8 earthquake off the eastern coast of Russia, is currently in effect for the entire West Coast.
Residents should monitor local news reports and sign up for alerts at Alert.LACounty.gov.
An advisory is the middle tier of the Tsunami Warning Center’s alert system. It means that residents should stay away from beaches and coastal areas because of the possibility of flooding and dangerous currents.
