District Attorney Hochman Announces Atlas Iron and Metal Corp. Shutting Down Permanently After Pleading No Contest to Hazardous Waste Violations
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that Atlas Iron and Metal Corp. has pleaded no contest to five felony counts of hazardous waste disposal at an unpermitted site, resulting in the immediate and permanent closure of all operations on its premises.
“This outcome shuts down a dangerous facility that has threatened this community for more than 75 years. Today, Watts is safer and the children and educators at Jordan High School can now breathe easier — literally and figuratively,” District Attorney Hochman said. “We will relentlessly pursue any business that poisons our neighborhoods. Let this be a warning — if you break the law and put public health at risk, we will hold you accountable.”

District Attorney Hochman Intensifies Efforts Against Animal Cruelty With 25 New Cases
District Attorney Hochman announced that his office has filed 25 animal cruelty cases — including 18 felonies — over the past several weeks, underscoring his commitment to holding abusers accountable and protecting our most vulnerable.
In one case, a man allegedly dropped a bulldog named Adriana on her head, kicked her, then threw her into a stack of tires, where she was left to die. Subsequent veterinary testing revealed the bulldog had illegal drugs in her system, further heightening the severity of the abuse.
“Let me be clear: If you harm an animal in our community, we are watching you — and we will find you,” District Attorney Hochman said. “Animal cruelty is a serious crime. It’s also a red flag for possible future violence and we treat it exactly as it should be treated — with zero tolerance and aggressive prosecution.”

Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
The Los Angeles metro area is home to the largest AAPI population in the country, with more than 2.1 million residents in 2024. This community plays a vital role in shaping the story of LA County and the nation.
LADA, under the leadership of DA Nathan Hochman, is proud to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. In March, LADA announced the historic appointment of Tony Lee as the first Asian American and Korean American to lead the Bureau of Investigation — among our 40+ member management team working to deliver justice and equity for all.
This month — and every month — we honor the legacy, leadership, and lasting impact of the AAPI community.
