A Message for Our Director

Dear Colleagues,
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, two commemorations that speak to the importance of culture, inclusion, and connection. The intersection of the arts and mental health is also present in this month's updates.
Our Creative Wellbeing work, which uses arts education to support emotional resilience, trauma recovery, and youth mental health, continues to grow with opportunities below. To support wildfire recovery, our Civic Art Division has joined forces with local conservators to offer Conservation Clinics, providing artists and community members care for fire-damaged artworks and belongings. We are also excited for the 2005 Arts and Health Week Summit later this month, which is hosted by LA Opera and Supervisor Hilda Solis, and invite you to join artists, arts leaders, health professionals, and researchers to explore the intersection of arts, health, and healing.
As we celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, we uplift the artists, culture bearers, and leaders of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities who have long enriched Los Angeles County’s artistic landscape. Their stories, cultural contributions, and resilience in the face of historical and present-day challenges, are a testament for us all.
With appreciation, Kristin Sakoda |

The day included six breakout discussions that explored everything from the crafting of AI policy to the question of of what creativity is in the age of AI. Thank you to all who made this event possible. It was a wonderful day of learning, creativity, networking, and (of course) DATA! |
