 What to Expect When Phase 2 Debris Removal Gets Underway in Your Community: Interactive Infographic and Videos

A new interactive graphic is now available online to help property owners visualize what they can expect if they opt-in to Phase 2 of the government run debris removal program led by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Residents can visit the Phase 2 Debris Removal: What to Expect page for the new interactive visual and the latest announcements from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers such as the video below where Col. Swenson discusses the qualifications to remove trees as part of the debris removal process.

Fire Eviction Protection Forms Available for Fire Victims
Tenants impacted by the January wildfires can now access eviction protections recently passed by the Board of Supervisors through sample notification forms made available by the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs. Protections are effective through July 31, 2025 and apply countywide including all 88 cities and unincorporated areas.
Eligible tenants can use the sample notification form to give notice to their landlord that they are experiencing financial hardship due to the wildfires. Giving notice to landlords is required to secure eviction protections for workers impacted by the wildfires.
- Tenants looking to use this protection retroactibly for the month of February must give notice to their landlord today, Tuesday, March 4.
- Tenants looking to use this protection for March, must notify their landlord by Friday, March 7, 2025.

LA County Recovers Press Conference
Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5, at 8 a.m., LA County Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Lindsey Horvath will join with County and federal officials to provide essential information and present the latest updates on recovery efforts underway.

Rain and Possible Thunderstorms Ahead
Light to moderate rain is expected Tuesday night into Thursday with a slight chance of thunderstorms, gusty winds, lightning and small hail according to the National Weather Service. There is a 10-20% chance of significant flooding and burn scar debris flows.

New PCH Passes Available to Eligible Residents, Businesses
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Police Department, City of Los Angeles, and Office of Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath have collaborated to create a unified Pacific Coast Highway access pass. The new pass features all agency logos. All original passes will continue to be accepted.
Starting today, March 4, new passes are available Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Disaster Recovery Center at UCLA Research Park West (10850 West Pico Blvd.) Passes are also available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Santa Monica College’s Malibu Campus Interpretive Center (23555 Civic Center Way) and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Malibu City Hall’s Multipurpose Room (23825 Stuart Ranch Rd.)
PCH burn area access passes remain limited to Palisades and Malibu residents in burn areas; eligible essential businesses, and school buses.

CalOES will host an Applicant Briefing for cities, school districts, state agencies, and eligible private nonprofit organizations to discuss public assistance funding due to a disaster declaration The deadline to apply for assistance is March 9.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed debris removal on the first residential property to undergo Phase 2 cleanup operations. Read more here.
For those opting into the government-sponsored debris removal program, the online Right of Entry form is available here. The form also is available in Spanish, Russian, Armenian, Korean, and Simplified Chinese.

For those who opt-out: Property owners who choose to hire private contractors for fire debris removal can now receive a permit that allows home and business owners and their authorized private contractors to manage their own debris removal efforts while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental standards.

 Apply For Federal Assistance Before Monday, March 10
Homeowners, renters and businesses impacted by the wildfires have less than one week to apply for federal disaster assistance. Monday, March 10 is the deadline to apply for both FEMA disaster assistance and a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loan.

Get Financial Help Through the LA County Household Relief Grant
If your home was affected by the Eaton and Palisades fires or recent windstorms, you may qualify for immediate financial assistance through the LA County Household Relief Grant. This program provides essential support to impacted households for unmet needs not covered by other forms of assistance.

Apply for Small Business and Worker Relief Funds
Small businesses and nonprofits impacted by the recent wind and wildfire disaster are eligible to apply for the LA Region Small Business and Worker Relief Funds before the deadline on Wednesday, March 12.

Small Business Relief Fund: Offers cash assistance grants up to $25,000 for small businesses and nonprofits that suffered structural damage, equipment or inventory loss, or revenue loss due to the disaster.

Worker Relief Fund: Provides cash assistance grants up to $2,000 for workers who lost employment or income because of the disaster.
