LA County Commission on Human Relations will hold its annual Hate Crime Report press conference. Attendees can attend in person at our building on Vermont Avenue or online via Zoom. Please allow five extra minutes to join the meeting if you plan to participate remotely.
What:
The Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission will release its 2023 Report on Hate Crime in Los Angeles County. The report provides an analysis of hate crime data for 2023 based on race, sexual orientation, religion, gender, and disability. The information is collected from more than 75 law enforcement agencies, school districts, and community-based organizations throughout LA County. Hate crimes documented in the year 2023 grew to a peak and set multiple records for the highest counts of certain targeted groups—African Americans, Asians, Jewish people, Latino/as, LGBT individuals, and transgender people—and included the highest counts for anti-immigrant slurs, Middle East conflict-related crimes, and crimes with evidence of White supremacist ideology.
The report also documents which regions of the County experienced the highest numbers and rates of hate crimes. In addition to the data, speakers will discuss what is being done to end hate crimes and incidents in our county, including the LA vs. Hate initiative. More information on LA vs Hate may be found here: www.LAvsHate.org.
