District Attorney Gascón Announces Public Service Campaign on Sexual Assault and the Legal Requirements for Consent
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced a public service campaign to educate Angelenos on sexual assault and the legal and ethical requirements for consent in recognition of National Campus Safety Month. LADA’s consent campaign includes billboards and bus stop ads near L.A.’s largest college campuses to prevent sexual violence.
“As your District Attorney, I am dedicated to fighting for justice for survivors and advocating for a future free from sexual violence,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Every case we prosecute is unique, but one theme comes up again and again: consent. Our new campaign aims to dispel the harmful myth that silence implies consent, as this misconception perpetuates a culture of victim-blaming and impunity for offenders.”
The billboards and bus stop ads can be found throughout L.A. County near major college campuses and in areas students frequent. The visuals will also be shared to social media.

A Freed Man and a Dog Named Freedom: LADA Highlights Exoneree Miguel Solorio Who Was Wrongly Convicted of Murder
Miguel and Silvia Solorio
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office published a new video highlighting the case of Miguel Solorio, who was wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. He spent 25 years in custody for a crime he did not commit.
“My office is gratified to see how Miguel Solorio is thriving after decades of wrongful incarceration for a crime he did not commit. His experience was a powerfully difficult one, and we are grateful to Miguel for sharing his story and bringing attention to the injustice of wrongful incarceration,” District Attorney Gascón said. “We honor the resilience of Miguel and his beloved wife Silvia, who worked to prove his innocence in the face of life without parole. They are an inspiration.”
Since 2021, District Attorney Gascón’s Conviction Integrity Unit and Habeas Unit have exonerated 14 innocent people — some of whom were convicted as children and most who spent more than two decades in prison for crimes they did not commit — for a combined total of more than 340 years behind bars.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is proud to announce that its annual murder filing rates from 2016 to 2023 have remained consistent, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to justice for victims of violent crime. The filing rates reflect the percentage of murder cases filed out of the total number of potential cases presented by law enforcement.
“Our office remains unwavering in its commitment to holding offenders accountable and delivering justice for victims and their families,” District Attorney Gascón said. “The consistency in our murder filing rates from the last administration to my administration is a testament to our office’s resolute dedication and the tireless efforts of our prosecutors, investigators, and law enforcement partners. This stability in our filing rates underscores the effectiveness of our collaborative approach to addressing the most serious crimes and reinforces our pledge to ensure that every case is thoroughly pursued.”
