Colleagues:
It’s summer, of course, but it’s also Grants Season! Our flagship Organizational Grant Program (OGP) and the innovative Community Impact Arts Grant opened this week, and the Arts Internship Grant opens September 10. We have updated guidelines and information online, and plenty of supportive resources to help you and your organizations through the application process. There is more funding now, thanks to the leadership of the Board of Supervisors, including motions from Supervisors Solis, Mitchell, and Horvath—a $1.15M increase to OGP this year, the first increase in over 15 years for LA County’s longest-running arts grant program! There is also news below about an opportunity to join our Arts Ed Collective Leadership Circle, and information about the accomplishments of our Public Artists in Development (PAiD) program’s Artist Council.
This month, I had the honor of attending the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Observing and learning from the inspiring opening ceremonies, as well as those of the Olympic Games, I am struck by the power of arts and culture to uplift the ideals of the Games. As always, we are thrilled to support the arts and culture field, all made possible by Board support and deep partnership with so many of you.
Onward!

Introducing the PAiD Artist Council
Graphics by Handbuilt Studio. |
Artworks on View
We are pleased to present eight artworks created by the Public Artists in Development (PAiD) program’s Artist Council members. Over the course of a six-month program of dialogue and art creation led by PAiD program art consultant, Dyson & Womack, the Artist Council has engaged in a series of discussions to help shape the future of Los Angeles County's public art policy and processes to better support artists. The artists were also commissioned to create a series of temporary projects that engage their communities and reflect their artistic goals. Projects include free interactive pop-up events, temporary installations, and performances located in public spaces throughout the County, on view through September 2024. |
|
PAiD is a new program funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to promote the career growth and economic empowerment of underrepresented artists in LA County. This program was created to address critical structural barriers to participation identified by the Civic Art Division and across the broader field of public art. The program will expand educational resources, training, mentorship, and new project opportunities to encourage the skill-building and professional readiness of diverse artists. |
