District Attorney Filing Record Percentage of
Felonies in Metro-Related Attacks

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office recently released data demonstrating a marked increase in felony charges against those who commit violent acts against innocent Metro passengers and drivers. From January to April 2024, our office filed charges in 100% of Metro-related felony battery cases presented by law enforcement. LADA achieved a 10-year high filing rates in Metro-related felony battery cases over the last five years, with record filing rates in 2020, 2021, 2023, and YTD 2024.

LADA Hosts AAPI Forum on Fighting Hate Crimes

In recognition of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office held an AAPI Anti-Hate Crimes Awareness Virtual Town Hall. Expert panelists discussed lessons learned in combating the rise in hate and bias in the United States.

Guest speakers included Debra Wong Yang, partner at Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher LLP, and co-chair at Alliance for Asian American Justice; Brian Sun, partner at Norton Rose Fulbright, and board member at Alliance for Asian American Justice; and Jerry Kang, professor at UCLA Law School. The webinar included a welcome by District Attorney George Gascón and was moderated by Deputy District Attorney Paul Kim.

Honoring Law Enforcement Officers
Killed in the Line of Duty

During National Police Week, members of our Bureau of Investigation joined the Southern California Chapter of the Police Unity Tour to commemorate the lives of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty – riding nearly 300 miles to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Dedicated on October 15, 1991, the Memorial honors more than 23,000 federal, tribal, state, and local law enforcement officers.
