Los Angeles General Medical Center Receives "Superior Performance" Recognition for Second Consecutive Year in the 2024 Opioid Care Honor Roll
Los Angeles, CA -Los Angeles General Medical Center is proud to announce that it has been recognized for "Superior Performance" for the second consecutive year in the 2024 Opioid Care Honor Roll by Cal Hospital Compare (CHC). This honor underscores the Medical Center’s unwavering commitment to addressing the opioid crisis through exemplary patient care and innovative opioid management practices.
The Opioid Care Honor Roll, aims to accelerate hospital progress in reducing opioid-related deaths and to acknowledge hospitals that demonstrate exceptional performance in opioid care. The program evaluates hospitals based on a rigorous Opioid Management Hospital Self-Assessment, which covers four critical domains: safe and effective opioid use, identifying and managing patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), overdose prevention, and implementing cross-cutting opioid management best practices.
"We are honored to receive this recognition from Cal Hospital Compare. It reflects the dedication and hard work of our entire team in providing safe, effective, and compassionate care to our patients," said Jorge Orozco, Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles General Medical Center. "This achievement inspires us to continue advancing our efforts in combating the opioid epidemic and improving patient outcomes. Our mission of providing world-class care for all and fostering healthy communities is at the core of everything we do."
Dr. Brad Spellberg, Chief Medical Officer, added, "This accolade is a testament to our commitment to clinical excellence and continuous improvement. By adhering to the highest standards in opioid management, we are making significant strides in patient safety and public health."
"The recognition of our sustained superior performance is a reflection of our dedicated nursing staff’s hard work and their unwavering commitment to patient-centered care," commented Nancy Blake, Chief Nursing Officer. "We will continue to implement best practices and innovative strategies to address the opioid crisis effectively."
Between January and March 2024, 157 hospitals participated in the assessment, with Los Angeles General Medical Center being one of the few to achieve the highest distinction. The 2024 Opioid Care Honor Roll recognizes four tiers of performance: Superior Performance, Excellent Progress, Most Improved, and Sustained Improvement. Hospitals achieving ‘Superior Performance’ have implemented advanced, innovative opioid stewardship and harm reduction strategies across multiple service lines, consistently achieving the highest level of performance.
