A Letter from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
 Dear Friends,
This morning, I was proud to host a reception in honor of International Women's Day at the YWCA San Gabriel Valley in the City of Covina. I was joined by California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom who provided keynote remarks, and together we honored 11 women for their service to the residents of the First District.
International Women’s Day is a day of collective global activism and celebration for and by those committed to realizing women’s equality. This year, the International Women’s Day 2024 campaign theme is Inspire Inclusion. During the event, the following remarkable leaders exemplifying that theme were honored:
- Belinda Faustinos, Strategic Advisor, Infrastructure Justice for LA Coalition
- Bo Sivanunsakul, Director, Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment
- Melissa A. Hammond, Captain, California Highway Patrol
- Charlene Dimas-Peinado, Trustee, Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History Board of Governors
- Corinne Sanchez, Executive Director and Founder, El Proyecto del Barrio
- Debra Ward, Chief Executive Officer, YWCA San Gabriel Valley
- Gabriela Eddy, Lead Community Organizer, Strength Based Community Change
- Juliana Serrano, Vice President of Advocacy and Equity, Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley
- Maribel Valdez, Co-founder, In the Making
- Nane Avagyan, Journalist, Asbarez/Horizon TV Correspondent
- Reyna del Haro, Senior Director of Public Affairs and Brand Communications, Kaiser Permanente
I stand on the shoulders of visionary women who have achieved phenomenal success in creating infinite change. That is why hosting an annual event to recognize women who have helped strengthen our communities is so important to me. I look forward to my continued partnership with women across the First District so that we can create a society where every young girl and woman activates her infinite potential for change.
Sincerely,
Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
This week, I had the pleasure of connecting with several Brazilian and Mexican delegates from Transparencia Electoral, a nonprofit that promotes fairness and transparency in elections across Latin America. I was happy to discuss the election process in Los Angeles County, what we are doing to make voting as easy and accessible as possible for everyone, and how we can make it better, worldwide
