Dear Neighbor,
At the beginning of this year, the Board of Supervisors passed a motion that Supervisor Barger and I co-authored, directing the allocation of an additional $40 million in funding (supplementing the original $5 million) to create a Countywide rent relief program to support our mom-and-pop landlords and tenants. I want to ensure you are aware that the Department of Business and Consumer Affairs (DCBA) has launched the LA County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program Portal. I’m proud to see that this program is now live to fulfill its intended purpose of truly helping people stay housed that have been hit hardest by the pandemic.
If you are a landlord or tenant who was impacted by COVID-19, I encourage you to visit the LA County Rent Relief website to learn more about the program and apply. Eligible applicants may receive up to $30,000 per rental unit for past due rent and qualifying expenses incurred from April 1, 2022, to date on a rolling basis. The Department of Business and Consumer Affairs (DCBA) will offer language assistance daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Call (800) 593-8222 to reach a DCBA counselor for free, one-on-one support. While open to all, preference will be given to applications demonstrating significant financial distress, serving vulnerable communities, and located in high-need areas as identified by the LA County Equity Explorer Tool.
The deadline to submit applications is Friday, January 12, 2024.
Sincerely, Holly J. Mitchell Supervisor, Second District Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors

Thank you to the Over 200 residents who joined us to share their feedback. It is important to my office that we create spaces for constituents to learn more about the options being considered so you can make your voices heard. If you couldn’t make this event, we will have a community conversation on this topic On Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 5:00-7:00pm, please register here.

Addressing Homelessness: Encampment Resolution Update |
|
Our most recent encampment resolution through LA County’s Pathway Home initiative took place in the Florence-Firestone and Walnut Park communities of the 2nd District and the Huntington Park community of the 4th district (represented by Supervisor Janice Hahn) - showing how our homelessness crisis touches every part of LA County. This is our fourth Pathway Home operation in the 2nd District within 4 months and the results of months of outreach to build trust for people to say yes to being part of this initiative. Each person we reach that agrees to relinquish their RV and take the interim housing being offered, receives the essential services they need to stay housed and a plan for connecting to permanent housing options that meet their needs. The 2nd District reports the highest number of homelessness encampments, with currently over 50 areas awaiting encampment resolutions. We will continue to work with the County’s Homelessness Initiative and our community partners to expand Pathway Home to reach more neighborhoods to get our unhoused neighborhoods off the streets.
