A Letter from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
Los Angeles County, through its Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA), will provide over $68M in grants to qualified landlords located within LA County through the Los Angeles County Rent Relief Program. This program will provide direct financial assistance to landlords to help them mitigate the detrimental economic impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in tenants’ inability to keep up on their rent. Landlords may receive up to $30,000 per rental unit for past-due rent and eligible expenses dating from April 1, 2022, to the present. Eligible expenses include unpaid rental debts, utilities, and any other verified related expenses.
To qualify, landlords must meet all the following requirements:
- Property is located within Los Angeles County, excluding the City of Los Angeles.
- Landlord can provide authentic proof of ownership, independently verified, using third-party resources.
- W9 information can be validated against IRS records.
- Evidence of a rental relationship is confirmed with evidence of a rental agreement.
- Affected unit(s) is/are currently occupied by the impacted tenant(s) and is verifiable.
- Eligible expenses are supported with verifiable documentation.
- Rental arrears are confirmed to have occurred April 2022 and beyond and excluding any months where monies were received through the following relief programs:
- Stay Housed LA
- DCBA Rental Housing Supports and Services
- LA County Mortgage Relief Program
An applicant's immigration status will NOT impact the application's eligibility for the program, nor will it be a determining factor on the grant award amount.
The application portal is now open. I encourage all landlords who were negatively impacted by the pandemic to apply now by clicking here. If you need assistance completing your application, or help navigating the application process, the Rent Relief Call Center is open daily from 7 am to 7 pm. You can also get free multi-language assistance by calling (877) 849-0770. DCBA is also hosting in-person and online sessions to provide application assistance. See all dates and times here.
Sincerely,
Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
In LA County, the life of every resident is important and cherished – regardless of who they are, where they came from, where they lived, who they loved, and how they passed. To that end, it was an honor to attend the annual burial ceremony of the unclaimed dead at the LA County Cemetery in Boyle Heights. This year, we commemorated 1,937 residents who passed away in 2020, but had no loved one come forward to claim their remains. And for the first year, this includes those who passed away from COVID-19 during the pandemic. Many of them were also unhoused and undocumented.
It was beautiful to witness an interfaith ceremony and traditions in multiple languages, which highlighted the diversity of those we honored and our beloved county. I commend the Department of Health Services for hosting this event every year.
May they rest in peace.
I am thrilled to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Dr. Beatriz Solis Memorial Park, a beautiful green space in South Pasadena dedicated in memory of my dear sister.
Dr. Bea was a fierce advocate, nationally recognized philanthropist, and public health leader, who dedicated her life to building and stabilizing communities through her relentless fight for racial, social, economic, and gender justice toward building healthy communities.
The Department of Economic Opportunity launched sidewalk vending services to help connect LA County's smallest entrepreneurs to critical information, business support, and educational materials needed to start and safely grow their sidewalk vending business!
Sidewalk vendors can sign up for FREE one-on-one counseling and online or in-person educational sessions, access business support, or learn about street vending rights. Attend upcoming in person or virtual community sessions to learn more:

Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority (LAHSA) Winter Shelter Program is now open and will be available until March 31, 2024. These shelters help to keep our unhoused neighbors safe and warm during the coldest months in our region. The shelters operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These emergency shelters offer a total of 322 beds across eight sites to help people experiencing homelessness. If you or anyone you know needs shelter, contact 2-1-1 LA County to find the nearest location.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is excited to announce the launch of the Parent Ambassador Leaders (PALs) program! PALs is designed to help parents learn, share, and get paid $550!
LEARN: PALs help parents/guardians (parents) learn about four topics connected to student health and school success via online trainings.
SHARE: Parents share what they have learned with people in their child’s school community and can connect others with resources and partners in the community.
Note: Because outreach activities occur at elementary, middle, or high school campuses, interested parents will need the support of a school administrator. Parents can work with the administration to determine what type of outreach would be most beneficial to their specific school site.
PAID: Parents are provided a $550 gift card when they finish approximately 6 hours of training and 14 hours of outreach activities (approximately 20 hours total) per semester. Parents will receive the gift card at the end of the semester (Spring 2024).
