Dear Neighbor,
I’d like to share a follow-up from our Pathway Home RV encampment resolution that happened at the end of August in the unincorporated West Rancho Dominquez/East Gardena communities. Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to meet with new residents from that Pathway Home resolution program for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner as they transitioned out of interim housing and received house keys to their permanent homes. The new 4-story modular apartment building in the Florence-Firestone community (that they moved into) will provide on-site services through St. Joseph Center to assist tenants with ongoing case management, including workforce opportunities, mental health support, substance abuse services, and more.
Connecting residents to permanent housing with the services they need to stay housed is a key step in the County's Pathway Home initiative program. This would not be possible without our partnerships and Measure H funding. It is a significant moment for the households that moved in, but it is not lost on me that we must continue to urgently work together to get the countless more unhoused residents the services and housing they need. I look forward to sharing more welcome home days as we work to scale up the Pathway Home program throughout the 2nd District and LA County.
Sincerely, Holly J. Mitchell Supervisor, Second District

Ensuring the Ongoing Success of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital
Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH) is a lifeline for South LA residents and is the only private hospital built by the County on County-owned land. We must ensure MLKCH remains operable and continues to provide quality care to all its patients. The Board recently approved my motion to report back (in writing) on the steps we can take to stabilize the hospital’s financial position. I look forward to sharing more updates from the report on the necessary support the County can provide.

Jacqueline Avant Children and Family Services Clinic Ribbon Cutting |
|
We officially commemorated the grand opening of the Jacqueline Avant Children and Family Center with a ribbon cutting and resource fair. The Center, located in the Watts-Willowbrook community, was named in honor of beloved philanthropist Jacqueline Avant, who dedicated her life to supporting youth in South LA. This Center helps address the complex needs of children facing behavioral and mental health challenges. It wouldn’t be possible without partnerships from St. John’s Community Health, Special Needs Network Inc., LA County Departments including Public Health, Public Works, Internal Services, Department of Health Services, Mental Health, Arts & Culture, and Children & Family Service. Special thank you to Mark Ridley Thomas and the Avant family and friends for their vision and support in making this possible.
