LA vs Hate Mural Unveiling at Willowbrook Senior Center |

Team Mitchell had the honor of being part of the unveiling of the new mural It's All for You, designed by the talented artist Brittney S. Price. The mural celebrates LA County’s Black community, utilizing the power of art to unite diverse communities. This event was the culmination of residents across Willowbrook and South LA coming together to pay homage to the history of their communities while working to create a brighter future. Thank you to LA vs Hate, LA County Aging & Disabilities Department, Brittney S. Price, Willowbrook Inclusion Network, Brotherhood Crusade, and LA Commons. We celebrate all the community partners involved in making this project and call to action possible. You can visit this beautiful mural outside the Willowbrook Senior Center. Jacqueline Avant Children and Family Services Center Grand Opening |
|
We officially commemorated the grand opening of the Jacqueline Avant Children and Family Center with a ribbon cutting and resource fair. The Center, located in the Watts-Willowbrook community, was named in honor of beloved philanthropist Jacqueline Avant, who dedicated her life to supporting youth in South LA. The Center addresses the complex needs of children facing behavioral and mental health challenges. This event and center wouldn’t be possible without St. John’s Community Health, Special Needs Network Inc., LA County Departments including Public Health, Public Works, Internal Services, Department of Health Services, Mental Health, Arts & Culture, and Children & Family Service. Special thank you to Mark Ridley Thomas and the Avant family and friends for their generosity and everyone that made this facility possible. |

EBT skimming has been reported throughout Los Angeles County. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) wants to make sure you are aware of EBT card skimming and how to protect yourself from this type of theft.
EBT skimming occurs when a person places a plastic mask on a retailer’s payment machine to steal EBT card information and benefits. Follow these Simple Steps to Stop Skimming:
- Before you swipe your card, check the device! If the machine looks broken, rattles, or does not have a protective seal - don’t use it.
- Change your PIN every month to prevent thieves from stealing your personal information, benefits, and funds.
- Check your benefits balance regularly by logging onto your BenefitsCal.com account to report any questionable activity.
To report skimming incidents to DPSS contact (866) 613-3777 or call the California EBT customer service hotline at (877) 328-9677. For more information on EBT Skimming click here.
