Los Angeles County District Attorney's
Office Launches Investigation Into
Labor Practices in Local Hotels

da-nl202310-Investigation-Labor-Practices

District Attorney George Gascón stood alongside labor leaders, elected officials, union organizers and workers during a press conference to announce his office’s investigation into local hotels’ labor practices amid the largest hotel strike in U.S. history.

This vital inquiry comes in response to the recent strikes organized by UNITE HERE Local 11, shedding light on concerns regarding the alleged employment of unhoused refugees, particularly from Venezuela, to replace striking workers, notably in the housekeeping departments.

“We take these egregious allegations with the utmost seriousness,” District Attorney Gascón said. “The mistreatment of vulnerable workers and their exploitation will not be tolerated. We will conduct an exhaustive investigation, working closely with UNITE HERE Local 11 and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with labor laws and protect the rights and dignity of all workers.”
