A Letter from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
 Dear Friends,
As a daughter of immigrants from Mexico and Nicaragua, it is important for me to uplift and celebrate my culture, heritage, and history. To that end, it was my honor to proclaim September 15 to October 15, 2023, as Hispanic Heritage Month in LA County.
During this month, I encourage you to take some time to reflect on the sacrifices and struggles that Latinos have overcome to establish a sense of belonging in this country. LA County is home to nearly five million residents of Latino origin. From teaching the next generations the value of hard work, keeping cultural practices alive, and uplifting one another through education and unity, many Latinos have contributed to the fabric of our society and are the backbone of our economy. From healthcare workers to cooks, to entrepreneurs, educators, artists, and public servants, Latinos are committed to building a brighter future for generations to come. May we recognize their numerous contributions and honor their diverse cultures this month and all year round.
Celebremos a nuestra gente!
Sincerely,
Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
It was an honor to attend this year's CHCI Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. and discuss health disparities impacting our Latino community, how they are being addressed in other parts of our nation, and new ways to tackle this challenge. Although LA County has moved the needle toward achieving health equity, there is still much more work to do and I am committed to working with our federal partners so that our Latino community remains safe and healthy.
