A Letter from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
As we head toward the winter holiday season, LA County is experiencing large increases in the number of reported COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, as well as very high levels of influenza and RSV. With three respiratory viruses circulating, it is important to take common sense measures to keep one another healthy, which will allow us all to celebrate the holidays with our family and friends. Fortunately, we now have more tools at our disposal than ever before to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe, including vaccinations, tests, and treatments.
For COVID-19 and influenza, vaccinations are widely available, and if you haven't gotten the updated COVID-19 booster or a flu shot yet, I strongly encourage you to do so as quickly as possible. The new COVID-19 booster is specifically formulated to protect against the COVID-19 strains that are widely circulating now, and there are over six million eligible residents who have not yet taken advantage of this opportunity. Everyone in LA County who is 5 years or older and received their last booster more than two months ago is eligible for this updated dose.
The updated Fall COVID-19 boosters, plus flu vaccines, are readily available at Public Health sites, pharmacies, and other locations across the County. To find a location near you, visit our Public Health website for COVID-19 and flu vaccine information. Older adults and residents who cannot easily leave their home can contact Public Health telehealth services at (833) 540-0473, seven days a week, from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm to arrange for at-home COVID-19 Fall booster and primary series vaccinations or transportation to a vaccination center.
In addition to vaccinations, it is strongly recommended that all residents wear a mask indoors, which can provide significant protection against COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. Additionally, I ask that you please stay home if you are sick. When gathering with friends or family, please also consider getting tested beforehand, and you can easily find a testing site near you on our Health Services website. For those who do test positive for COVID-19, telehealth services are available for lifesaving medications - simply call (833) 540-0473.
This winter, let us continue to do our part and look out for one another as we have done these past few years. I am confident that if we use the tools at our disposal, we can all celebrate a happy and healthy holiday season with those we love.
Sincerely,
Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
I feel very blessed to have worked with Supervisor Sheila Kuehl for decades, and with her term on the LA County Board of Supervisors coming to an end in a couple of days, I have been reflecting on her incredible accomplishments. From being a driving force in creating the Clean Power Alliance to standing up the LA County Women and Girls Initiative and championing the passage of Measure H, her legacy will last for generations to come.
For that, I am grateful. Supervisor Kuehl is a dear friend. She is someone who I sincerely love and trust. Someone who has taught me a great deal and whose memories I will always cherish. Thank you for your service, mi hermana.
The LA County Justice, Care and Opportunities Department (JCOD) invites you to help us create a new logo to raise the visibility of our new department and its services.
