Event: Identity and Activism in Diverse Democracies
Is democracy important, at least as an ideal, to realize belonging? Can we have stable, diverse democracies? And should ascribed identities (such as race, religion, or gender) be central in political solidarity efforts, or should they become less salient? What kind of coalitions can and should we build? Join us tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7:30am PT / 10:30am ET for a conversation examining these questions through the lens of trends, patterns, and differences in European countries and North America with Yascha Mounk, a writer and academic known for his work on the crisis of multiracial democracy and with Uma Mishra-Newbery, a global social justice and women's rights leader. Register here.

Virtual Panel Discussion on Human Monkeypox and Domestic Violence
Friday October 7th: 10am-11:30am PST
Since the first case of human Monkeypox (hMPXV) in United States was confirmed in May, the number of cases have quickly skyrocketed, with the LGBTQ+ community disproportionately impacted by the epidemic. Inadequate infrastructure to test combined with stigma, hate, and blame against the LGBTQ+ community has already had a deep impact on LGBTQ+ survivors of domestic violence. Join us for a panel discussion moderated by Terra Russell-Slavin the Chief Impact Officer of the Los Angeles LGBT Center with leading experts: Mieko Failey, Esq. – Director of Legal Services at the LGBTQ Center Long Beach, Mary Case - Manager of the Legal Advocacy Project for Survivors at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, Kaityi Duffy - Chief Medical Officer of the Los Angeles LGBT Center, and Kate D’Adamo - Partner of Reframe Health and Justice Consulting. Join the National LGBTQ Institute on Intimate Partner Violence in a conversation to learn more about how DV survivors are uniquely impacted by this epidemic and what service providers can do to respond swiftly and effectively to hMPXV for DV survivors’ safety and wellbeing.
