A Letter from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
I am pleased to share that once again, COVID-19 booster shots are available for all residents age 12 and above who are two months out from their last dose. These are updated Pfizer and Moderna boosters that target not only the original COVID-19 strain, but also the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of Omicron that fueled our most recent surge and continue to be the dominant circulating strains.
Although I am grateful to see that cases, hospitalizations, and deaths from COVID-19 across the County continue to decline, there remains significant community transmission, and it is critical that we build up our protections ahead of a potential winter surge. Vaccines remain our first and most important line of defense, and I encourage those who are eligible to get vaccinated now. The CDC's Booster Recommendations are as follows:
- Adults ages ≥18 years: One Pfizer or Moderna updated (bivalent) booster at least 2 months after the last dose
- Adolescents ages 12-17 years: One Pfizer updated booster at least 2 months after the last dose
- Children ages 5-11 years who received a Pfizer primary series: One Pfizer original booster at least 5 months after completing the primary series (or 3 months for those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised).
These boosters are available at hundreds of sites across the County, including Public Health vaccination sites, mobile vaccination vans, and pharmacies. To find a location for the new booster, go to VaccinateLACounty.com or VacunateLosAngeles.com. Click on "Find a Location," and then search by "Vaccine Type." LA County residents can also call 2-1-1.
Let us continue to do our part to keep ourselves and one another healthy and safe.
Sincerely,
Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
Home to over 1.5 million residents of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) descent, Los Angeles County is a global hub of a mixture of Asian cultures. As we ring in the Mid-Autumn Festival (also known as Chuseok, Tsukimi, and Tet Trung Thu), I want to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions that the county’s AAPI community have made. Thank you for continuing to make LA County a global example of the power of diversity and inclusion to improve and strengthen our communities.
However, I am mindful that our AAPI community continues to confront hate incidents from both the COVID-19 pandemic and the epidemic of racism. My office continues to work diligently to address these incidents. Hate has no place in LA County and our “LA vs. Hate” campaign continues to work with local organizations to provide services to survivors of acts of hate. I want to thank those who have been vocal in advocating for policy solutions to the rise of anti-Asian hate. Unity and kindness are the only way forward.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally a celebration of the bountiful harvest of the past year that transcends cultures. As such, I want to wish all those who celebrate a wonderful day of festivities and plenty of happiness, good health, and prosperity in the coming year!
中秋節愉快
