L.A County Oversight Commission to Host Sessions at Annual Police Oversight Conference in Texas

Fort Worth, TX – The Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission (Commission) is hosting five sessions at the 28th Annual National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE) Conference.  The conference provides a forum for civilian oversight practitioners, law enforcement officials, journalists, elected officials, students and community members to exchange information and ideas about issues facing civilian oversight and law enforcement.

The in-person sessions will take place September 11-15 in Fort Worth, Texas, and virtual sessions will be on October 26, November 2, and November 9. Twenty-eight sessions will share information on strengthening the work of police, jail and prison oversight, as well as innovations that will push civilian oversight forward in this continued era of reform.

“We’re honored to host five sessions at the NACOLE conference,” said Brian K. Williams, Executive Director for the L.A. County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission. “This conference provides oversight professionals continuing education and networking opportunities to advance best practices in law enforcement oversight.”

The Commission is hosting three in-person and two virtual sessions, with a lineup of panel speakers ranging from experts in the criminal justice system and academics to community advocates and oversight practitioners. Commission hosted sessions include: The Challenge of Prosecuting Police Officers; Addressing White Supremacy and Extremism in Law Enforcement; Leadership Roundtable: Looking at the Issues Facing Civilian Oversight Executives; The Cost of Police Misconduct; and Maximizing Your Agency’s Potential Through Media Relations.

“The NACOLE Annual Conference allows for civilian oversight practitioners, law enforcement, and community members to meet, learn from each other, and set goals for sustainable reform,” said Gianna Irlando, NACOLE President.  “All stakeholders are necessary to co-creating better public safety systems nationally and internationally, and NACOLE makes that possible.”
