ABOUT CALFRESH AWARENESS MONTH:

Since May 2010, DPSS has collaborated with County departments, community and faith‑based organizations, the 88 Cities of Los Angeles County, local college campuses and school districts, businesses, and Farmers Markets, to heighten public awareness of the CalFresh Program.  This year’s campaign theme is CalFresh + Healthy foods and more, focusing on the additional benefits of CalFresh, including free entry to local museums, discounts on utility bills, reduced fares on transportation lines, and more.

The community kick-off event will feature a free Farmers Market produce distribution, Yoga classes, ReThink Your Drink demonstration, recruitment for summer youth employment, toy giveaways for children in attendance, and on-site CalFresh Program enrollment assistance.

During their Tuesday, May 3rd public meeting, the Board of Supervisors will proclaim May as “CalFresh Awareness Month” in the County of Los Angeles and urge residents to share important information about CalFresh with those in their community who need it most.
