A Letter from Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
I know there is a lot of stress and anxiety around testing. The daily cases of COVID-19 have increased significantly after holiday gatherings due to the Omicron variant, and now the demand for testing is higher than ever. To that end, I have launched several testing sites in hard-hit communities across the County, which you can find below.
In addition, our County Department of Health Services launched the new "Pick-Up Testing Kit" program to increase and facilitate access to COVID-19 testing for all residents, regardless of immigration status. This program allows residents to pick up a PCR test kit , perform the test, and drop it off at designated locations, including four located in the First District -- East LA, El Monte, Covina and Azusa, with more locations to come. You can find all Pick-Up Testing Kit locations at covid19.lacounty.gov/la-county-pick-up-testing-kit-program/.
Additionally, this week the Department of Health Services re-launched the LA County Home Test Collection program, which offers an at-home nasal swab test kit via mail to LA County residents who have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed. These test kits are provided at no cost and are available on a limited basis. For more information, please visit https://covid19.lacounty.gov/testing/home-test-collection-program/.
While testing is critical, I want to continue to remind everyone that vaccines and boosters are the most life-saving tools that will keep us protected throughout this surge. Data continues to show that in LA County, you are less likely to get sick if you are fully vaccinated – especially if you have a booster shot. And if you’re up to date on your vaccines, you are far less likely to need to go to the hospital.
If you have not yet received your booster shot, I urge you to do so as soon as possible. Vaccines – along with testing, masking, and proper quarantine and isolation – will help us end this surge and hopefully put an end to COVID-19 this year. To find a vaccination site near you, make an appointment, and get more information about vaccines, visit: www.VaccinateLACounty.com (English) or www.VacunateLosAngeles.com (Spanish).
Sincerely,
Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
Earlier this week, I was honored to welcome United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, and other elected officials, on a visit to some of our region's most important economic engines: the Los Angeles and Long Beach Ports.
Good infrastructure means good jobs -- and that has always been the centerpiece of President Biden's economic agenda. In particular, I applaud President Biden and Secretary Buttigieg's efforts in easing congestion at our ports and strengthening infrastructure throughout the County. With federal funding from the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, we will be able to make our infrastructure more resilient than ever before and provide good-paying, green jobs for those who need it the most.
This week, I visited the Cecil Hotel which was recently converted to affordable housing for low-income individuals. This innovative public-private partnership between Simon Baron Development and the Skid Row Housing Trust will house 600 who have experienced homelessness or are low income. With onsite case management for residents, individuals living at the Cecil Hotel will have access to the supportive services needed to remain stably housed. I am proud to have this project in the First District. Thank you to Skid Row Housing Trust, Simon Baron Development, and the Downtown Women's Center for showing me around. We need more creative solutions like this to help overcome our homelessness crisis.
Accessing fake testing sites may jeopardize your privacy given personal information may be requested. Residents should never be asked for their social security number, immigration status, or credit card information. Legitimate testing and vaccine sites can be found at covid19.lacounty.gov/testing/ or by calling 2-1-1.
If you believe you have visited a fake COVID-19 pop-up site or purchased a fake COVID-19 at-home test, please report it to us at bit.ly/DCBAHelp or call (800) 593-8222.
