District Attorney Gascón’s First Year in Office
 Flanked by a cadre of the nation's leading progressive prosecutors, advocates and community leaders, District Attorney George Gascón marked his first year in office by outlining the office’s efforts to keep communities safe, improve victim services and implement criminal justice reforms.
“As we work to define what it means to be a 21st century prosecutor, I have and always will put public safety first,” District Attorney Gascón said during a Dec. 8 news conference. “This past year, we have demonstrated how advancements in science and data analysis can help keep our communities safer and healthier. They also are helping us to expand and improve trauma-informed services to victims and survivors of crime and to address mass incarceration and inequities within the criminal legal system.”

Pre-Filing Diversion Program
Focused on Youth, Victims
 Reena Hajat Carroll, Executive Director of the California Conference for Equality and Justice (upper left), Refugio Valle, Director of the Los Angeles County Division of Youth Diversion and Development (lower left), LADA Special Advisor Alisa Blair and Jessica Ellis, Executive Director of the Everychild Foundation, joined District Attorney Gascón in announcing a new pre-filing diversion program for youth.
District Attorney George Gascón has launched a victim-centered, pre-filing diversion program for youth.
“This program will help repair the immense harm that criminal behavior inflicts on our community by giving crime victims the opportunity to actively participate in the restorative justice process,” District Attorney Gascón said in unveiling the program on Nov. 17.

LADA Excellence Recognized
 Outstanding District Attorney’s Office employees were honored in November. Paralegal Tiffany Jimenez (pictured, upper left) and Senior Investigator Luis Corona (upper right) each received Jemison Awards for distinguished public service. Deputy District Attorney Melissa Lyons was heralded for her humanitarian efforts. Deputy District Attorney John Lewin was acknowledged for sustained excellence as a prosecutor.
District Attorney Tours Offices
 In his first year in office, District Attorney George Gascón toured all 11 branch offices, and many area offices and specialized units. Most recently he visited prosecutors and professional staff at the East Los Angeles Area Office (pictured above), Sylmar Juvenile Courthouse and Hall of Justice in downtown Los Angeles and met with victim services representatives at the Bureau of Victim Services headquarters in Alhambra.
 During the holiday season, beware of individuals who make bogus home deliveries to trick people into revealing personal and financial information. Use the tips listed above to protect yourself.
 Each holiday season, the District Attorney’s Office provides much-needed cheer to hundreds of crime victims and their families through the Holiday Giving Drive.
District Attorney personnel nominate victims, many of whom are children, and their families who have been severely affected by crime. Staff members collect donations, purchase gifts and deliver them to victims.
