Implementing Safe & Together into Child Welfare Practice: Arlington County, Virginia
Lissa Friedman, Bureau Director, Child Welfare Services, Arlington County Department of Human Services & Khalilah El-Amin, Child Protective Services Intake Supervisor, Arlington County Department of Human Services
About the session: This workshop describes steps taken in a Northern Virginia Child Welfare agency over the last several years to integrate the Safe & Together Model into casework practice.
Challenges around shifting workers’ perspectives, changing documentation expectations and partnering with collaterals will be discussed. Practice protocols and implementation strategies that were helpful and sustainable will be shared. The process of moving away from holding the person who was harmed responsible for making sure the children are protected and toward holding the person who has caused harm responsible for stopping the violence was a huge step. Successes and lessons learned will be helpful to others facing the same journey. MDHHS representatives from this collaboration will share their successes and lessons learned from their experience of fostering statewide implementation of the Safe & Together Model.
When: January 13-14, 2022 Location: Virtual Academy, zoom
Registration: $225 (US) starting November 1
Cost Includes: Live Virtual Event + Recording
