FIRST ANNUAL DEAF AWARENESS CONFERENCE

September 25, 2021

On Saturday, September 25, 2021 Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department hosted the first annual Deaf Awareness Conference at S.T.A.R.S. Center in the city of Whittier. The event was a great success! There were food trucks, face painting, classic police cars, static displays, and much more.

RAND

SHERIFF VILLANUEVA RESPONDS TO THE RAND REPORT 

September 23, 2021

On September 10, 2021 the Board of Supervisors released a study performed by the RAND Corporation titled "Understanding Subgroups Within the Los Angeles County  Sheriff's Department: Community and Department Perceptions with Recommendations for Change." On Wednesday, September 22, 2021 Sheriff Villanueva held a press Conference where he responded to the report and noted 50 years of failed leadership will take time to correct.

EBI

EDUCATION BASED INCARCERATION GRADUATION 2021

September 1, 2021

Education Based Incarceration (EBI) contracts with approved adult educational schools to provide courses at jail facilities. It gives inmates the opportunity to obtain their high school diploma if they haven't already done so. The curriculum is based on California state standards and is kept up to date with current requirements. Recently, 19 inmates from Men's Central Jail earned their high school diploma through the EBI educational program. The ceremony was held virtually by New Opportunities Charter School.
