A Letter from Los Angeles County Board Chair & Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
With each passing week, we are peeling away from the hold the pandemic has had on us for over a year.
This week, the CDC announced big news as it set forth a new recommendation to allow youth ages 12-15 to get vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. In addition, they also revealed updated guidance on mask wearing and physical distancing for people who are fully vaccinated, saying those that are vaccinated can drop the use of masks and physical distancing in most settings!
This is exciting news, and here at the County we are working closely with the State to ensure we’re implementing this safely as we continue our vaccination efforts. As we await further guidance from both the California Department of Public Health and the Los Angeles Department of Public Health, I ask that we continue to use a mask when in public settings as we have during this time.
This is the strongest message yet that vaccines will get us back to pre-pandemic activities. I encourage every resident to get vaccinated so that we can look forward to the day where we can all go completely maskless and back to seeing everyone's bright smiles once more.
As we await further guidance from both the California Department of Public Health and the Los Angeles Department of Public Health, I ask that we continue to use a mask when in public settings as we have during this time.
If anything, I encourage every resident to get vaccinated so that we can look forward to the day where we go completely maskless (with exceptions to large events and certain workplaces) and seeing everyone's bright smiles once more.

Supervisor, First District
Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidance indicating that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can safely resume activities that were done prior to the pandemic.
L.A. County and the State will review the recommendations in order to make sensible adjustments. In the interim, please note that fully vaccinated people do not need to wear a mask when indoors around other fully vaccinated people, or outside in uncrowded areas. When at businesses and in crowded venues, both indoors and outdoors, masks are still required to be worn by everyone. It remains important to protect workers at all worksites and all worksites must follow the requirements set forth by California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Cal/OSHA. Everyone must continue to adhere to required distancing and masking at all workplaces.
Proposed changes to Cal/OSHA’s workplace safety standards were posted for consideration at the 5/20 standards board meeting. We expect to hear more about these changes once the standards board meets. Until Cal/OSHA changes these requirements, the County cannot be less restrictive.
For the latest updates from the Department of Public Health, visit publichealth.lacounty.gov and follow @LAPublicHealth on Twitter and Facebook.
Everyone 12 years and older in LA County is now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Children 12-17 are only eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine—to find a location near you, visit the link below. Learn more about the vaccines at vaccinatelacounty.com.

I was so humbled to participate in a free food and PPE distribution hosted by Alma Family Services and Southern California Gas Company this past Monday in honor of Mother’s Day! Approximately 500 moms and their families received warm meals, self-care items, masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, and fresh flowers.
I am also so grateful to Alma Family Services for announcing that the garden at Girls Today Women Tomorrow will be named after my late mother, Juana Sequeria Solis. She had the biggest green thumb, and I am so touched by this gesture.

This week, I stopped by the Fairplex Emergency Intake Site with Folklorico dancers to offer the children a taste of music from their home countries and they were so excited to dance with their friends! We also dropped off puzzles, board games, and more - I want to thank the many residents who have extended such kind offers of books and toys for the over 350 children being cared for at the Pomona Fairplex. #JuntosConLosNinos

This morning, I joined the Energy Coalition and Lupita’s Market in Cypress Park for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the success of the County’s Healthy Stores Refrigeration Program (HSRP)!
The HSRP program is bringing energy efficient refrigerators to local grocery stores to help promote healthy food options and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To learn more, visit the link below.
