A Letter from Los Angeles County Board Chair & Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
We end this week with a powerful reminder of Los Angeles County's commitment to community.
Today, I hosted a tour and a press conference at the Pomona Fairplex, a space that I am proud to share will serve as an emergency intake site (EIS) for unaccompanied children. The space has been transformed into a safe haven - one that will provide nutritious meals, educational opportunities, medical and mental health support, recreational activities and so much more. Ultimately, the goal of this site is to reunite unaccompanied children with their families or a caring sponsor. You can learn more about the site at our FAQ here.
Since the announcement of the site, my office has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and residents who are willing to make a donation, volunteer or provide assistance in some way. Seeing this reaffirms what I already know, that our residents are always willing to step up to the plate and serve as angels of hope when needed. After all, we are Angelenos at heart.
And in other positive news, Los Angeles is approaching the yellow tier which will allow for even more re-openings in the County. Meanwhile, my office remains committed to ensuring every resident in the First District has access to a life-saving vaccine so we can cross over to that tier. This week, we launched several new vaccine clinics, with more on the way! Take a look below for a vaccine clinic near you.
With this in mind, I hope you head into the weekend in high spirits as we prepare for a new chapter - one in which we come back to a Los Angeles County that is compassionate, supportive and rooted in community. As always if you have any questions, you can reach out to my office.
Sincerely,
Chair Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
Today, I had the honor of touring the Pomona Fairplex that will serve as an emergency intake site for unaccompanied children who have recently come to the United States, with children arriving as soon as tomorrow. I am so grateful to our County departments and federal and local partners who have stepped up to establish a welcoming and nurturing environment for the children upon their arrival.
