A Letter from Los Angeles County Board Chair & Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
It is full steam ahead as LA County continues to ramp up its efforts to vaccinate as many residents as possible. This week, the State and County opened up vaccine eligibility to residents 16 and older. In the First District, I am proud to share that we continue to expand partnerships and launch mobile clinics to vaccinate our hard-to-reach and most vulnerable community members. Visit VaccinateLACounty.com to make an appointment or call 833-540-0473.
Getting vaccinated is not just an act of safety, it is an act of love. It shows that you care for the health of your family, friends, and community. So get vaccinated, LA! And share your experience with others so we can come out stronger and healthier from this pandemic.
Thank you all for your continued commitment to each other. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office. We are here to serve you.
Sincerely,
Chair Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
This week, we launched another vaccine clinic -- this time in Chinatown! The site is aimed at addressing the low vaccination rate in Chinatown among residents 65 and older. As of yesterday, it is now open to all residents over the age of 16. Residents can walk-up to the site and receive assistance with registration and translation services at 711 W. College Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
I am so thankful to our partners at Chinatown Service Center, CORE, First Chinese Baptist Church, Pacific Alliance Medical Center, Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, and the LA Department of Public Health for making this possible!

The First District Community Grants Program has officially reopened! Nonprofits serving First District residents are encouraged to review the application criteria and apply for funding. Please visit hildalsolis.org/grants for more information.
As of Thursday, April 15th, all residents 16 years older in LA County are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine!
Please note: the Pfizer vaccine is authorized for those 16 & 17 years old. For those who are 16 or 17, it will be important when making an appointment to select a location where the Pfizer vaccine is offered. The type of vaccine offered is noted for each vaccine site at How to Make an Appointment. Persons under the age of 18 will need to have parental consent to receive their vaccination.
Let's get vaccinated, LA!
Out of an abundance of caution, LA County is following the recommendation of the FDA and CDC to pause the use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine after reports that six women between the ages of 18 and 48 developed unusual types of blood clots 6 to 13 days after receiving the vaccine.
These reactions are extremely rare, as nearly 7,000,000 people have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the United States to date. People who received the vaccine in the last 3 weeks should look for any symptoms of these unusual clots, including severe headaches, abdominal or leg pain, and shortness of breath, and contact their medical provider if symptoms develop. People who don't have a medical provider can call 2-1-1.
This pause will last until the FDA and CDC complete their review, which is expected to take several days. If you have received the J&J vaccine and have questions, check out the FAQ below put forth by the LA Department of Public Health.
COVID-19 FUNERAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
We cannot take away the pain and suffering from losing a loved one from COVID-19. But we hope to ease some of the pain through a recently launched program to provide financial support to residents grieving their loss. LA County has partnered with the federal government to launch the COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program to reimburse residents up to $9,000 for those who lost a loved one to COVID-19, retroactive to January 20, 2020. LA County encourages eligible applicants to call FEMA's Funeral Assistance Line at 844-684-6333 (TTY) 800-462-7585 9 a.m. to 9 p.m, or visit FEMA.gov for additional information.
