A Letter from Los Angeles County Board Chair & Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
As we approach the finish line of this pandemic, hope for new beginnings continue to arise. This week, Governor Newsom announced a statewide goal to re-open California by June 15th - a goal that can only be reached if we continue to care for one another by practicing safety measures like wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and getting vaccinated as soon as we are able. By doing so, I am confident we can achieve this goal together.
And in other new beginnings, last night, I announced that Los Angeles County will be partnering with the Pomona Fairplex to provide an emergency intake site to temporarily house unaccompanied children arriving in the U.S. This would not be possible without the commitment of the Biden-Harris administration and compassionate community organizations, including the Pomona Fairplex, to provide quality care and services to unaccompanied children in need.
The outpouring of community support only demonstrates what I know to be true of Los Angeles County residents - that we are a community rooted in compassion, respect, and kindness. Thank you all, for your continued support. As always, if you have any questions, you can reach out to my office.
Sincerely,
Chair Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
As you read this, the Pomona Fairplex is in the process of making preparations for the arrival of unaccompanied children who will be temporarily placed here, while they await to be reunited with a family member or be paired with a caring sponsor.
Los Angeles County, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of Refuge Resettlement and the Fairplex are committed to providing wrap-around, holistic services that tend to the immediate needs of the children.
More details are being determined and we will be sure to keep you abreast of new developments. I know many of you stand ready to provide direct support in the form of service or donations and we will have more information in the coming weeks.
Southeast Los Angeles Vaccination Clinic in Maywood
In partnership with FEMA, Cal-OES, the SELA Collaborative, the City of Maywood, Speaker Anthony Rendon, and local officials, we successfully launched a THIRD mobile clinic in Southeast Los Angeles! The clinic is hosted at the Southeast Rio Vista YMCA in Maywood and is part of our ongoing efforts to address low vaccination rates in SELA.

UFCW Local 770 Vaccination Clinic
This week, I stopped by Ricardo F. Icaza Workers' Center in Huntington Park where 500 vaccines were distributed thanks to a partnership with Curative and UFCW Local 770 this week! These partnerships are critical to our vaccination efforts and to ensuring that we reach essential members and their families who have sacrificed so much during this pandemic.
