A Letter from Los Angeles County Board Chair & Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
It gives me great joy to end the week with positive news in our year-long battle with COVID-19. Thanks to the diligent efforts of our County residents, healthcare workers, essential workers and more, our case rates have dropped significantly and we will enter the Orange Tier in the State's Blueprint for a Safer Economy, starting Monday, April 5th.
And in other uplifting news, as of April 1st, adults over the age of 50 are now eligible for a COVID vaccine! On April 15th, all adults over the age of 16 will be eligible, making the vaccine more accessible. As vaccine supply increases, my office will continue to partner with local healthcare providers, community-based organizations, and cities, to meet the growing demand and vaccinate our most vulnerable. Vaccine equity remains a top priority for me.
As we go into the Easter holiday and continue Passover this weekend, I ask that we all do so safely. Let's enjoy this weekend's festivities safely, while practicing social distancing, wearing a mask and washing our hands. I am confident that we can avoid the surge that other states are experiencing after relaxing public health guidelines. Together, we can cross the finish line in this race against COVID.
Sincerely,
Chair Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
Today, marks a momentous occasion in our County's history. It is with great joy that I share with you all that we have officially broken ground into what will be the LAC+USC Restorative Care Village! This first-in-the-nation mental health and well-being campus will be dedicated to meeting the needs of our most vulnerable residents at LAC+USC Medical Center.
The project includes the Recuperative Care Center (RCC), one building yielding 96 beds, and Residential Treatment Programs (RTP), four buildings yielding 64 beds. The RCC will provide clinically enriched interim housing with on-site nursing support, health oversight, case management, and connection to permanent housing to serve those who have been discharged from County health facilities and facing unstable housing conditions. The RTP will include intensive treatment programs for individuals being discharged from County hospital psychiatric emergency services, inpatient psychiatric units, and mental health urgent care centers. The project budget is estimated at $68,461,000 with funding coming from a California Health Facilities Financing Authority (CHFFA) grant and the Los Angeles County’s Departments of Health Services and Mental Health. The project is expected to be completed summer 2021.
This site is a true testament to the power of partnership, and above all the power of community. I am so grateful to our residents and partners at the local and state level who have collectively shaped a new vision for LA County to bring care first and jails last.
As I noted above, Los Angeles County is entering the Orange tier starting Monday, April 5th! This means that more community members can enjoy some of their favorite leisure and recreational activities while practicing safety measures.
- Restaurants, gyms, fitness centers, yoga studios and movie theaters can now open to 50% capacity with modifications to each sector
- Bars can re-open for the first time since June of 2020 for outdoor service only
- Wineries and breweries can provide indoor service at 25% capacity with modifications
This week, I was honored to celebrate Cesar Chavez's legacy and birthday.
We kicked it off with a Day of Service at Earthworks Farms in El Monte, where we announced a partnership with CultivaLA and the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps to expand opportunities for residents to engage in agriculture and nature! Watch our segment on KTLA 5 to learn more.

On Wednesday, I was thrilled to join First Lady Jill Biden, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom and my hermana, Dolores Huerta at Forty Acres in Delano, a site that I helped establish as a National Historic Landmark during my time in the Obama administration. It was an honor to meet with other farmworkers and hear their stories. Without them, our communities would not have food on their tables. |
This week, the City of Irwindale was hard at work providing much needed resources to its residents. We kicked off Thursday morning with a food distribution at the Irwindale Speedway in partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Baby2Baby and the City of Irwindale. 2,500 families received food, diapers, baby formula and more!

Following the food distribution, I joined Bonduelle, home of Ready Pac Foods, where we launched a vaccination clinic in partnership with Albertsons that will provide free COVID-19 vaccines to its Irwindale employees. This site will service up to 100 employees per day with a goal of reaching 1,000 by the end of the clinic's term. It was my pleasure to secure these vaccines for the Bonduelle workers who have served as essential workers during this pandemic. |
