A Letter from Los Angeles County Board Chair & Supervisor Hilda L. Solis
Dear Friends,
The bright light at the end of the tunnel is closer than ever. Yesterday, CA Governor Gavin Newsom announced that vaccine eligibility will expand significantly starting April 1st to include CA adults over the age of 50, and starting April 15th, will open up to all CA adults. This is remarkable news that comes as vaccine supply is expected to increase and as President Biden shares his new goal of issuing 200 million vaccine doses in his first 100 days.
In line with the expansion of vaccine eligibility, I remain more committed than ever to ensuring this larger expansion is inclusive of our hardest hit communities in the County and the First District. Just this week, my office launched a community vaccination center in the Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) region at the Bell Community Center! You can read more about the site below.
This week's news leaves me feeling optimistic about the future that lies ahead. Like anything in life, as we approach the finish line of this pandemic, let's finish strong. Keep wearing a mask, practice social/physical distancing, and wash your hands. And, as always if you have any questions, comments or feedback, you can always reach my office. We are here to serve you.
Sincerely,
Chair Hilda L. Solis
Supervisor, First District
I am thrilled to share that we have launched a new community COVID vaccine center in partnership with JWCH Institute, Inc. at the Bell Community Center.
The opening of this site will ensure that residents and workers from the communities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Florence-Firestone, Huntington Park, Lynwood, Maywood, South Gate, Walnut Park, and Vernon have equitable access to the vaccine. As vaccine supply increases, we will be able to increase capacity at each site as well as deploy additional mobile vaccine units to reach as many residents in the First District.
To schedule an appointment, eligible community members can call (323) 538-7802, Monday through Friday between 9:00am-6:00pm, or email vaccine@cityofbell.org.
On Monday morning, I personally entered the building where Morgan Lewis Law firm is and delivered a letter of demand to stop them from preventing 5,800 Amazon warehouse workers in Alabama from forming a union.
Since we were denied entry to their office, we held a labor action outside of their building to let them know that we stand with Amazon workers - let them unionize!
