Serving Those Who Served Our Country, Unsung Heroes, Closure of Some COVID-19 Testing Sites

The County of Los Angeles is regularly updating resources on COVID-19 and offers today's update in an effort to keep you and yours informed. Please share the following up-to-date information:

Serving Those Who Served Our Country

Thank you for your service

Los Angeles County is home to the highest concentration of military veterans in the nation and we are honored to serve those who served our country.

The Department of Military and Veteran Affairs continues to provide resources to veterans and families remotely during this time. Veteran Service Officers can be contacted directly via phone at (877) 4LA-VETS, (213)765-9680 or (213) 765-9681 or via e-mail at outreach@mva.lacounty.gov.

Through the Department of Mental Health, veterans can access the Veteran Peer Access Network, the first-ever community-driven support network serving veterans and their families in the U.S. Led by veterans for veterans, VPAN helps those in need navigate often complicated systems.

Also available through the Department of Mental Health is the Veteran and Military Support Line, which provides support and resources for veterans, military members and their families. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., those in need can call (800) 854-7771, ext. 3 for support.

And finally through the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs, disabled veteran business owners can learn how to join the Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise Preference Program, which is designed to enhance purchasing and contracting opportunities for businesses owned by disabled veterans.

Unsung Heroes

Unsung Heroes

This year Veteran's Day marks a special milestone: the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. In remembrance of the more than 16 million Americans that served in the armed forces at that time, the Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is proud to present Unsung Heroes from the Greatest Generation, a documentary film featuring narratives from and about veterans who did whatever it took to promote freedom for all.

Do Your Part and Slow the Spread of COVID-19

Graphic reminding people how to help slow the spread of COVID-19

As we go into cooler months and many holidays, we are increasingly worried about more and more transmission of the virus and more hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19. The next two weeks are crucial. Every person needs to make personal decisions each day to slow the spread of the virus using the tools we know work:

  • Physical distancing of at least 6 feet and wearing cloth face coverings when around people who are not from your household
  • Avoiding crowds and gatherings
  • Staying home if you are feeling sick
  • Isolating if you are positive and quarantining if you have been a close contact.

Every person, every day needs to be diligent in using these tools.

COVID-19 Safety Compliance Certification Program

Compliance

LA County is helping train businesses on the implementation of COVID-19 safety protocols through a no-cost online training course called the COVID-19 Safety Compliance Certification Program (CSCCP). Once completed, business owners receive a certificate, and window seal to display on their storefront, which can reassure employees and customers alike that the business is following COVID-19 infection control and physical distancing requirements.

If you have not yet completed the CSCCP course or want to learn more about it, visit publichealth.lacounty.gov/eh/covid19cert.htm. Help support your employees, customers, and community while on the Road to Recovery.

Great Plates

Great Plates

Great Plates Delivered has been extended through December 8th. LA County's meal assistance program offers eligible seniors with three (3) home-delivered meals a day. Seniors over 65, seniors 60-64 years of age who have been diagnosed or exposed to COVID-19 or those at high-risk for COVID-19 may qualify.
