Drive-in Movie Series For Families in the Second District

WHAT: As families continue to search for entertainment and a sense of community nine month into the COVID-19 pandemic, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas is hosting a two-night socially distanced, COVID-19 safe drive-in movie experience. On Friday, October 2nd at 7 pm Remember the Titans, featuring Denzel Washington, will be shown at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. On Saturday, October 3rd at 7pm, Disney family favorite, Moana, at the newly revitalized Earvin “Magic” Johnson Park. The screening with be the culmination of a day of celebratory activities at the park in anticipation of its reopening after $70million upgrades.

Working in conjunction with event partners: View Park Organization, Empowerment Congress West Area, New Mount Calvary, Animo Watts College Preparatory Academy, Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation Chevrolet, and OZO the two drive-in experiences will provide safe, community relief and diversion for families and individuals of all ages in the South Los Angeles area. On each day, guests can get their fill of free popcorn, candy, swag bags, and more from sponsors to enjoy with the movie.

Previously, the Office of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas hosted a drive-in experience for families at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza for a special viewing of Black Panther in honor of Chadwick Boseman.
