School Waivers for TK-2 Opening Soon, Learning Together Safely, Free COVID-19 Safety Compliance Certification Program

 

The County of Los Angeles is regularly updating resources on COVID-19 and offers today's update in an effort to keep you and yours informed. Please share the following up-to-date information:

School Waivers for TK-2 Opening Soon

The school waiver program will begin accepting applications for TK-2 in person instruction in early October. 

The issuance of waivers will be prioritized to schools with higher percentages of students qualified for free/reduced meals. Schools must also be able to open in full adherence with the L.A. County school re-opening protocols. 

The application process will be available online at publichealth.lacounty.gov and will be launched in early October.

Please note: TK is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. To learn more about TK visit the California Department of Education

To help children get back to school, and parents back to work, LA County will be sharing regular content on resources and support for distance learning. County students, parents, educators, child care providers, or administrators are invited to read and share what you see here to ensure we are all "learning together safely" during the COVID-19 crisis.

Schools in light of COVID-19: The Issue is Equity

On Oct 1 at 5 pm, journalists and education experts will discuss how COVID-19 is impacting students, schools and the community.

The discussion includes: 

  • How is COVID-19 impacting Schools?
  • Are Latino, Black, and low-income students disproportionately impacted?
  • What are some causes? What are some possible solutions?

School Symposium Series- Still Time to Register!

Leading with Resilience in School Communities. Hosted By The Department of Mental Health, UCLA, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

October 7, 2020: Parent/Caregiver Engagement
This session will include experts who will highlight the impact of COVID-19, racial injustice and educational inequity on parents/caregivers and will include considerations and strategies for supporting and engaging parents/caregivers during this highly stressful time.

October 14, 2020: Youth Voice and Leadership
This final session will include a Student Panel of youth who will talk about the impact of COVID-19, racial injustice and educational inequity. They will give an inside perspective on strategies that have been successful and provide suggestions on how school staff and school community can support students and their families.

COVID-19 Safety Compliance Certification Program

LA County is helping train businesses on the implementation of COVID-19 safety protocols through a no-cost online training course called the COVID-19 Safety Compliance Certification Program (CSCCP). Once completed, business owners receive a certificate, and window seal to display on their storefront, which can reassure employees and customers alike that the business is following COVID-19 infection control and physical distancing requirements.

Great Plates

Great Plates has delivered 1,361,112 meals through since the program launch and has been extended through October 9th.

LA County's meal assistance program offers eligible seniors with three (3) home-delivered meals a day. Seniors over 65, seniors 60-64 years of age who have been diagnosed or exposed to COVID-19 or those at high-risk for COVID-19 may qualify. When you help a senior connect to Great Plates Delivered, you're also helping your local restaurant, hospitality and transportation community get back to work.
