LOS ANGELES—Youth and staff at Los Angeles County Probation’s Campus Kilpatrick in Malibu were evacuated Friday to Challenger Memorial Youth Center in Lancaster due to the Woolsey Fire. All youth and staff assigned to Campus Kilpatrick are safe and accounted for. No other Probation facility currently housing youth is affected by the fires but staff are on alert in case conditions change.
The Probation teams at Campus Kilpatrick, Special Enforcement Operations, and Transportation units have prepared for a scenario such as this and they have acted with professionalism and care for the youth being moved. L.A. County Probation is grateful for the heroic efforts of the first responders fighting the wildfires and those who assisted with the evacuation of staff and youth at Campus Kilpatrick, including the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Sheriff's Department, Department of Mental Health, Department of Health Services, Office of Emergency Services and the Los Angeles County Office of Education. A special thank you to the Ventura County Probation Department who provided food and facilities to the youth being transported to Lancaster at the Ventura County Juvenile Hall.
