Los Angeles County Probation Bureau Chief Dalila Alcantara was recently recognized by First District County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis for her outstanding contribution to both the Probation Department and the communities of Los Angeles County. Supervisor Solis selected Ms. Alcantara as one of seven County employees of Hispanic descent who have made significant impacts in their various fields throughout the County—specifically within the First District. The commendation was part of the Board of Supervisor’s recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, a month-long celebration of the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

“During Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize the histories, cultures, and many accomplishments of the Hispanic community in this country,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. “Dalila Alcantara oversees more than 1,400 sworn officers and supervisors, and is responsible for ensuring the safety of the youths in our halls every day. I have visited with our Probation youth at Central Juvenile Hall and have personally witnessed how boys and girls in our care – as well as our Probation Officers and staff – trust Ms. Alcantara and know that she cares about their success and well-being. We need more people like Ms. Alcantara working for L.A. County.”

As Bureau Chief of the Detention Services Bureau, Ms. Alcantara manages the day-to-day operations of Probation’s three juvenile halls and the transportation division. Born in Mexico and raised in Los Angeles, She began her career with the Probation Department 20 years ago as an investigator. Before ascending to her present position, she served as Superintendent of Central Juvenile Hall in Boyle Heights where she started the Family Council which strengthened family engagement and gave families a voice.

“I am honored to be selected as a representative of the positive change which Probation can provide to our community members,” said Ms. Alcantara. “I am humbled because I grew up in the First District. I truly care about the community and our citizens and it fills me with joy to see the positive change that has improved the quality of life for the people in the District.”

The Probation Department congratulates Bureau Chief Dalila Alcantara on her well-deserved honor and all of Probation’s Hispanic employees who dedicate themselves to making the Department a leader within the probation field and Los Angeles County.
